Digital Fortress
question
Greg Hale...

Not that I want to disect the book, I enjoyed it, and fiction requires a suspension of disbelief to be enjoyable, but...
Why did Greg Hale attack Susan Fletcher the first time? He had her trapped in Node 3, a captive audience, so to speak. He could have simply laid out his story and tried to convince her that Strathmore was up to no good. His attack cemented his guilt, in Fletcher's mind, and caused her to run straight into the arms of the true villain.
It's just a hole I couldn't get past.

Because Susan Fletcher wouldn't have believed Greg Hale, he would've only scared her even more, which would've pushed her even more to go to Strathmore. Or also maybe he wanted to check what Susan knows about Strathmore's plan, if she's guilty or not. A third variation is that he liked Susan, and wanted her to stay clean when he caught Strathmore, providing her an aliby by keeping her captive.
