Shirley | 4177 comments Talk about our monthly fiction read here!

Leslie | 16369 comments I have heard great things about this book - hope that I can get it from the library without too long a wait!

LauraT (laurata) | 14361 comments Mod
I had never heard of it. I definitly need All about Books to keep me out of the XIX century!

Shirley | 4177 comments I've heard good things too, already have it on my kindle!

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments I have just read this and it is a powerful and emotive story tissues required though written in a way that is quite matter of fact and isn't manipulative of your feelings.

Gemma (gemmagem20) | 460 comments So, is this the book for now? Or will it start in September?

Shirley | 4177 comments Gemma, this is from now (as August already half way through) until end of September.

I'm really looking forward to reading this now!!

I don't think I'll start before september, but I don't know if I'll manage to wait so long!

Jo (new_romantic) I'm so glad this is the first fiction read because I'm already reading it at the moment. I'll comment about it when I'm done :)

I'm the same Laura. Would love to read it but would probably be Sep. Maybe we could do a read-along then?

Hi Elaine, don't worry, we'll leave the thread open for anyone who wishes to add to it...

Jo (new_romantic) I've just finished it and I really enjoyed it. Am I too early to be posting thoughts on the plot and whatnot?

Leslie | 16369 comments Jo wrote: "I've just finished it and I really enjoyed it. Am I too early to be posting thoughts on the plot and whatnot?"

I think that it is okay to post your thoughts as long as you hide any major spoilers, since a lot of us won't be reading this until Sept. If you are unsure how to hide stuff, click on the "(some html is ok)" on the upper right corner of the comment box for help.

Chris (cdavies1951) | 80 comments I've been wanting to read this. I'll join.

Jo (new_romantic) I think I'll wait until more people have read it and follow their lead :) can't wait for the discussions :)

Ava Catherine | 57 comments I read this book when it first came out, but I want to go back and re-read it. I really enjoyed this book.

Kai Coates (southernbohemian) | 22 comments I bought it today at Half-Price Books, but I'll need to finish a few I'm currently reading before I start. Looks good!

I just downloaded this, can't wait to start it.

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14704 comments Mod
I know it's a bit sad but I love that Chapter 1 is entitled '16th December 1918'. haha.

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14704 comments Mod
I am really liking this so far, I don't really know what to say about this but it's quite enchanting, the imagery is pretty.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) They have The Light Between Oceans available at my local library in the large print section so once I go back, I will go check it out. I got to finish No Returnfirst. Btw, is it okay if I just participate in the nonfiction and fiction group reads? was just curious.

Amber, you are free to join as many or as few group reads as you like.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Okay. Thank you Leslie. ^_^

Sally Rees | 27 comments I'm in as have just downloaded it as another book group reading it so perfect timing :)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I'm going to pick up The Light Between Oceanson Sunday at the library with The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I heard it is a good read.

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14704 comments Mod
I am really enjoying this so far, so glad I picked it up.

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments I got so involved in this book broke ny heart in some parts . Tissues at the ready is my advice. :)

Shirley | 4177 comments I've nearly finished this, and will post my thoughts soon...

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14704 comments Mod
I will probably finish it today, was at a really good bit last night but I couldn't keep going.

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14704 comments Mod
Although I could tell from the first couple of chapters that this would be a four/five star book.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I can't wait to start it! ^_^

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14704 comments Mod
Just finished it and loved it, will post my thoughts in a bit.

LauraT (laurata) | 14361 comments Mod
Thanks for waiting! I hope to start it tomorrow!

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) My local library has a copy. Not completely sure it is my sort of thing though.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I'm starting this book on Sunday. It looks pretty interesting.

I have the same "perplexities" we'll see reading it Paul.
I've just looked at the first chapter and seen it's well written. Maybe a bit ... sugary? We'll see!

I think I will hold off on posting my thoughts on it, they might spoil it for people who are still reading. But I am so glad I broke my book ban for it.

message 43: by Abi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abi (abi_b) Just finished this, and wow what a powerful story. I ended up giving it a 4, but admit I was torn between a 4 and a 5 - if it was possible to award 4.5 I would! Like Alannah I'll wait a little bit to write down my thoughts - or at least wait until I'm near a computer and can hide spoilers. Really hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did, really great choice for the first group read

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I'm going to start reading this tomorrow after I get it at the library. It's on my currently-reading shelf but only placed it on pg 1 cuz I haven't officially started it yet.

LauraT (laurata) | 14361 comments Mod
I'm reading it and liking it quite. I'll talk when I'm a bit further on

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14704 comments Mod
I agree with Abi, it was a great choice for a first group read.

Got this on my kindle. Still reading Vanity Fair but this is next on my list when I've finished that. Is it a quick read?

Shirley | 4177 comments Heather wrote: "Got this on my kindle. Still reading Vanity Fair but this is next on my list when I've finished that. Is it a quick read?"

Hi Heather, I've finished this and I think it's a fairly quick read. Can't wait to discuss it, but will wait until a few more have read it!

I would say it is, took me about five days to read it.

It seems like the group have generally enjoyed it and got through it quite fast. I'm really looking forward to starting.
