I'm Meg. I grew up in rural NJ (it really does exist!) and now live in IN. I have a M.S. in biology and my grad work involved monitoring bat populations. I am involved in ongoing endangered species surveys, wildlife rehabilitation, and veterinary disciplines. My interests are mainly with wildlife health, mammalogy, entomology, ecology, and disease ecology.

Bill | 13 comments I'm Bill, and I'm more of a Bio-Nerd wannabe than an actual Bio-Nerd. I am an older student slowly working my way through a B.S. part-time. I've enjoyed reading popular biology books all my life, and am currently on a marine invertebrates kick.

Welcome Bill! It sounds like you are definitely a Bio-Nerd! You can suggest books you've enjoyed or wish to read on the suggestions thread, it would be great to have a variety of different biological themes to read with this group.

Amanda Hello again! I love all things biology. I have my BS in Biomedical Sciences and am currently working on my PhD in Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I'm originally from Baltimore but grew up in Lexington KY. For my thesis I am working on developing a novel Adenovirus vector for gene therapy, specifically Lung diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis. I'm looking forward to reading more science based books!

Elliott Garber (elliottgarber) | 10 comments Hello everyone, I'm Elliott, a veterinarian in the Army currently living in Sicily.

I studied biology as an undergrad and was really torn between pursuing a career as a wildlife biologist or as a veterinarian. I decided on vet school but have maintained my interest in wildlife health and ecology, along with human public health. I completed MS and MPH degreees along with my DVM, and now I'm trying to figure out what comes next after my commitment in the Army is done.

Welcome Amanda and Elliott! This group is just starting out, so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Feel free to begin a new thread for any books or biology topics you'd like to discuss.

Laura | 1 comments Hi! I'm a pharmaceutical microbiologist in the Chicago area. I enjoy reading almost everything, especially genetics, evolution, epidemiology, and science history. I see the current book is Spillover, which was already on my Amazon wishlist. Guess I have to go buy it now! :-)

Amir Nakar Hi, just starting out college tomorrow, plant science and biotech.
Read Selfish Gene (which clinched studying biology for me) and a few other things...

So... Nerds eh? I think that works for me

Welcome Laura and Amir! Please add any books you would like to read or books you have enjoyed to our book suggestion thread for future reads. All group reads are voted on a group.

JenniferM Hi I'm Jenn. I am a third year B.Sc student (Bio major). I plan on going to vet school. I like reading about many different fields in biology. Genetics I find very interesting as well as ecology.

Elliott Garber (elliottgarber) | 10 comments Welcome, Jenn! I'm a vet, so you're in good company here. This group has been pretty quiet recently, but maybe some new members will get us inspired to start things up again...
