Guess what folks? It's that time of the month (no, not that time). Don't like what we are reading now? Well, you can nominate a book for the Group Reads in Sept/Oct. We chose one YA book and one Adult Book. You may nominate as many as you wish. The books, however, should fulfill one or more of the following. Please note that legend and myth can be used instead of fairy:

1. A collection of fairy (folk) tales
2. A retelling of a fairy tale (or collection of retellings).
3. A critical work on tales or myths.
4. A biography of a famous fairy tale writer.
5. A novel that has been heavily influence by fairy tales (such as Possession)

I'm actually running low on things to nominate.

Adults: The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood -- based on "The Robber Bridegroom" which is somewhat similar to "Bluebeard"
YA: Snow in Summer by Jane Yolen -- a retelling of Snow White set in West Virginia.

The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood Snow in Summer by Jane Yolen

I would love to read The Robber Bride! I recently bought that one, and I love Margaret Atwood.

If you haven't already had this as a group read, which you probably have, I would like to nominate Beautyby Robin Mckinley for YA. I've never read it!

Phair (sphair) Two novels have come out recently based on the Rapunzel tale.

The adult novel: Sold for Endless Rue. Sold for Endless Rue by Madeleine E. Robins is less closely related to Rapunzel and is more a historical fiction with elements of the tale

The YA novel: Towering by Alex Flinn . Towering is another of Alex Flinns retellings.

I'd suggest either or both of these

Those choices look so good Melanti that I am tempted not to nominate anything else!

Just so there is more to choose from I will nominate a novel inspired by the Greek Myths of Persephone and Hades:
Persephone's Orchard by Molly Ringle
And the young adult The Troll Bridge by Jane Yolen which is supposed to have elements to 2 Fairy Tales in it: The Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Billy Goats Gruff

I'm putting the poll up Monday, so if you have a book you want to nominate, now is the time.

message 8: by Clinton (new)

Clinton Festa The message said more about mythology than the first post of this thread, but if anybody wants to do mythology, here's an epic for an alternate Canada. I'd be available for 'behind the scenes' after each chapter of the group read if selected. Thanks for considering:
Ancient Canada
