Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Hello, everyone! We are going to be handling the group reads a bit differently in order to give members more flexibility and time.

Nominations for October’s group read run from August 15th to 31st. This will give members the entire month of September to get a copy of the book in whichever way they choose and time to read it before the discussion opens in October.

We will be doing group reads this way from here on out.

Please refer to the full guidelines for more information & to look over what to remember when nominating: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Thank you for your patience as we get used to doing it this new way :)

Bring on the nominations!

Nominations as of August 31, 2013:
1. Ireland Rose by Patricia Strefling
2. Love in Disguise by Carol Cox
3. Never the Bride by Rene Gutteridge
4. John's Story: The Last Eyewitness by Tim LaHaye
5. House of Mercy by Erin Healy
6. Into the Free by Julie Cantrell
7. A Change of Fortune by Jen Turano

Heather | 77 comments Has "The Jesus Chronicles" been a group read before? I have 3 of them and have read 2 of them. What great books! Is there a way to tell which books have been on the group read list so requests aren't repeated?

message 3: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Heather, if you check out the guidelines, there are links to shelves for the current year, 2012 and 2011. :)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Ok. Thanks. Is there going to be an additional group read for next month? Just curious.

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments I will nominate Ireland Rose by Patricia Streifling since I read it and enjoyed recently.

There will be. Cheryl will open the voting for that. As of right now, it's still on the same timing as it usually is.

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: When did you pick the book for next month? Why is it the second book in the series and not the first one? Just curious.

Alayna | 2 comments Can I nominate Trouble in store by Carol Cox

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Natalie wrote: "@Beth: When did you pick the book for next month? Why is it the second book in the series and not the first one? Just curious."

Natalie, since we changed it around, there wasn't time to do a pick for it, since technically it would have been too late, you know? Or we would have had to have nominations for September & October, which would have gotten to confusing.

Jodie picked the read for September because a lot of people posted that they were reading it in August :)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Ok. Thanks. Did you do a group read for the first one.

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Natalie wrote: "@Beth: Ok. Thanks. Did you do a group read for the first one."

Not that I'm aware of.

message 13: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Ok. I think most series should be read in order.

message 14: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Me too :) I don't have any of the books in the series, so I'll be sitting that one out. But since we're switching things up, it'll be alright.

Loraine, I'm a little concerned about this one. It doesn't have many reviews on here, had it been out very long?

message 17: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments No I don't think it has. I can pick another one of his instead.

message 18: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments How about Return To Shirley Plantation instead?

I believe the other one is fairly new.

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Loraine wrote: "How about Return To Shirley Plantation instead?

That one doesn't appear to be offered in hard copy as well as ebook...maybe one of his others?? Goodness, Loraine, I'm sorry to be such a kill joy today! ;)

message 20: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Can I nominate Never the Bride by Rene Gutteridge?

message 21: by Heather (new)

Heather | 77 comments None of the books from the Jesus Chronicles series by Tim Lahahye and Jerry B. Jenkins are on the lists so I suggest any of those books. These books don't have to be read in a particular order.

Hmmm, I'd say just go with the first one in the series. I'm not familiar with this series, can you let me know what the first one is?

message 23: by Beth (last edited Aug 19, 2013 08:00AM) (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Never mind! I think I found it! :) Would you mind checking the list & making sure that's the right series?

message 24: by J.S. (new)

J.S. Bailey (jsbailey) I'll nominate House of Mercy by Erin Healy.

House of Mercy by Erin Healy

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Alayna wrote: "Can I nominate Trouble in store by Carol Cox"

Alayna, I'm so sorry. I just realized that this one is a recent release - it just came out in June. On Oct. 1 that will only be 4 months out instead of the required 6. I was getting it confused with her previous book!

I'm going to change it to her other one, but if you'd like to nominate a different author's book, please let me know & I'll get it up ASAP.

Sorry about that :)

message 26: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments I'm wondering if anyone would want to read Into the Free. I don't usually nominate, but I have been wanting to read that one for a while & was just reminded of it because it's free on Kindle right now.

It's also won some awards and gotten wonderful reviews.

I don't usually nominate, at least I haven't in several months, but I think I will this time! :)

message 27: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Olson (girlsmama) | 694 comments Good idea Beth! That one was quite the award winner this year! I definitely want to read that one!

message 28: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: When do you plan to post the winner of the nominations since today was supposedly the last day? Just curious.

Carissa (Regency Woman) (sparklingangel84) | 5 comments What about A Change of Fortune by Jen Turano? It was published late last year, I think.

I'm reading it right now, Beth. It's incredible!!!

I would like to second the nomination for Into the Free. (if that's allowed)

message 31: by Cindi (new)

Cindi | 13 comments Beth, Into the Free is on sale at Amazon right now - Kindle version is $1.99 and $1.59 at Christian Book

Deeper Shopping has the paperback for $8.44

Even if it's not picked for the monthly read, this would be a great time to get it.

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Jodie: Ok. I am trying to be more patient.

message 33: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Thanks for bearing with me everyone! I'm on my Kindle at the airport and it won't load the random picker! I will do it as soon as I am able tomorrow!

message 38: by Natalie (new)

message 39: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Cheryl: When do you plan to put the poll for October's Additional Group Read up? Also, have we stopped doing nominations for the extra group read month, and if so hwo are the titles chosen? Just curious so I can better understand how the new process works.

I try and shoot for the 20th of the month for the poll for the additional group read. Sometimes I am a few days late as like Jodie says- life can get in the way (I'm a busy mom to 4) but generally look for the poll to be up on the 20th of each month for the following month. If you have suggestions for titles that would like to see on the list, please feel free to message me privately. I generally like to put several different genre's on the list for a variety of choices.

Amy | 3 comments I am new here. Have never participated in a group read. Could someone fill me in on what is required or how to participate. I have this book, and have not read it yet, so think I would enjoy joining in. Thanks.

message 50: by Cheryl (last edited Sep 06, 2013 12:35PM) (new)

Cheryl Olson (girlsmama) | 694 comments Hi Amy and welcome! Here is a link to the guidelines to help you out - http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1.... But in a nutshell for this particular read. You can read it anytime in September and discussion will open up on the book in October. So on October 1st look for a discussion thread to open up so that all who read it can join in.
