30.5. Ty's Task: Lessons in Defenestration

Autumn means I can turn off the AC and open the windows to let in some fresh air. The only problem is my slight fear of DEFENESTRATION, which also happens to be one of my favorite words in the English language.

Pick two options and read one book from each. All books must be over 300 pages.

NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or audiobook use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.

Required: state the options you chose and any supporting information.

Option A: Defenestration is the act of throwing someone or something out of a window. Never ever stand near a window with someone you do not trust behind you. Read a book with an actual window on the cover OR the word "window" or "windows" in the title or subtitle. For cover option, the window must be clearly identifiable. Required: include the cover in your post.
Acceptable Covers: The Glass Ocean by Lori Baker Charming the Highlander (Highlander, #1) by Janet Chapman The Boy in the Window A Journey Through an Unexpected Tragedy by Barbara Coppo

Option B: Defenestrating can be quite liberating and/or terrifying, but most defenestrations end in severe injuries or (depending on the height of the window) death. Always ensure there is soft, cushiony landing gear when defenestrating. Read a book whose title or subtitle includes a word that ends in the letters "-TION". Examples: The Captivation Creation in Death A Civil Action

Option C: There are many, many books I would have liked to have defenestrated with extreme force. But as is said, one man's trash is another man's favorite projectile with which to defenestrate. Read a book mentioned in any of SRC's Least Favorite or Worst Books threads found here.
Required: Link to the EXACT post where the book is mentioned. (This link is the time/date stamp in the upper right corner of the post.)

Unfortunately, graphic novels/comics/manga/etc. were not included as an allowance when task was drafted. Sorry! :/

Thanks so much. I was pretty sure they were windows, but I was staring at it for about 5 minutes trying to decide, so I figured it was safer just to ask. :)

message 17: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments question - you say "should" be over 300 pages - to me, that means we have an option...

message 18: by Ty (new)

Ty | 563 comments Kathy G - any window, so that cover works.

Dee - understood - but it is in bold, so it's a requirement? :D
If Sandy happens to glance in, we can probably edit "should" to "must" to avoid confusion.

Thanks for the quick answer, Ty. I just had pulled it out of my son's pile this am to find a place for this challenge and when it popped up on the first list I checked, I couldn't resist asking. There are still tons of options- and that reminds me can "tion" be plural?

message 23: by Ty (new)

Ty | 563 comments Sorry again! No plurals for Option B. It must specifically end in "-TION".

Ok and no worries- I have plenty to choose from on my TBR that are singular.

I actually did not think about subtitles at all. Hmm, this one was tough - I actually flip-flopped back and forth. However, I think to be as strictly adherent as possible to the current task wording (and to remain consistent with what is expressly allowed), we should stick with main titles only - no subtitles. This would be applied to Option A also.

The only one that would definitely qualify is Silent Echoes (Games of Zeus, #2) by Aimee Laine .

The rest either do not qualify due to page count or you would need a GR librarian to modify the page count for you (from what info I could find).

Okay, so after some further discussions and review of previous seasons' task, and a teensy bit of regret on my part, I think subtitles will be allowed for both Options A and B. Sorry for being wishy-washy, folks!

It is a bit small. Unfortunately, I can't clearly tell if that's a window or a door from the picture on Goodreads.

There are two windows, one above the other, on the gable end of the house 9right side).

I'm sorry, the house is just too small in the GR cover pic for the windows to be clearly identifiable to me. I even tried to google for a larger image, but to no avail.

That's odd, because I got a larger image button, which is how I noticed the windows. Hmmm. weird GR.

I had to google a larger image. Due to the severe angle, it's hard to identify as windows. Contextually, probably, but the various details of a window (framing, translucence, transmittance of light) cannot be discerned. Sorry!
