Denise (dulcinea3) | 400 comments After breaking the news to Arabella about Winkle's father's disapproval, Pickwick goes to Perker's office, where he encounters a series of visitors. First, Jingle and Job, who are off to start over in the West Indies (Perker had offered Job a job in London, but he is as loyal to his master as Sam is to his). Then, Dodson and Fogg, whom Pickwick verbally abuses. Finally, Mr. Wardle, who announces that his daughter Emily and Snodgrass want to marry, but he disapproves. Emily is visiting Arabella, and Snodgrass is there. He has to hide when Wardle and Pickwick arrive, along with Winkle and Ben Allen, but is found out, and after some initial indignation on Wardle's part, the old gentleman seems resigned. Mr. Weller had the will proved, in which both he and Sam are 'leg-at-ease'; he asks Pickwick to take charge of his portion and do some good with it. Pickwick then speaks to him about Sam and Mary - Mr. Weller is very upset at first, being against matrimony, but is convinced, upon being assured that Mary is not a 'vidder'. Sam, however, states that he will not leave Mr. Pickwick, and Mary will wait for him. Meantime, old Mr. Winkle arrives and visits Arabella anonymously, and is won over by her, so gives her and Nathaniel his blessing. The last chapter sees everyone settled happily - Mr. Pickwick dissolves the Pickwick Club and settles down in a house, where Emily Wardle and Snodgrass gets married. They live at Dingley Dell, while the Winkles settle near Pickwick, and after two years, Mary comes to be Mr. Pickwick's housekeeper and marry Sam. Tupman (the ladies' man) remains single for the rest of his life. Pickwick invests Mr. Weller's money, and he has an easy retirement. Sawyer and Allen move to India. And they all lived happily ever after!
