St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

I personally was a little disappointed, I didn't really like any of the characters, couldn't connect to the story, and I didn't think much of the plot. I also didn't really like Rose. But I really liked the world building, it seemed believable and effective

Vahhaba | 1167 comments Vampire academy was kind of a slow book, but the other books in the series were amazing. you could see how much Richelle Mead improved in her writing over the years/books.

I didn't find it slow, except, well, nothing happened. I think the book is more about the characters than the plot, I hope there's more plot in the next books but it doesn't look like it... jut romance, romance, romance... oh wait, there's a Strigoi attack. Ok maybe it won't be so plot-less. I still rated VA 4 stars, I did like, it but it's more like 3.5 rounded up.

Mama X (mamax) I loved the concept of Strigoi, Moroi, and Dhampir. It kind of "explains" why there are books about bloody, evil vampires and books about vampires who fall in love with humans, happily ever sparkling after. Hehe... I use the word sparkly a lot for those type of books. Anyyyyway... I was thrilled that this series is more adult than a lot of the YA vampire books are. The second book, Frostbite... even better. Looking forward to the third. OH and one more thing... look for the trailer for the movie. Valentine's Day next year, mark your calendars!
