*nudges everyone else*
If you've got a book which isn't 'traditional' fantasy (ie high/epic), or isn't fantasy at all, this is the category for you (or for a book you like which fits).
Marlowe and the Spacewoman got a lot of interest, and good ratings which will both help the author a little and readers to find a great book.
So, I hope we get a few more nominations. It's a zero cost way of getting attention for your book or a book you like, so give it a shot.

Yes do nominate other non-fantasy genres:) The more the merrier.
Sorry I've been silent. Lurking about and busily reading a non indie anthropology sort of book set (1491 & 1493). I don't have any preferences for genre next month. :)
Diana, no need to apologise. 'tis good see you on :)
So, we've got:
Zombies/apocalypse
Erotic suspense

paranormal/preternatural mystery...
I've got a book I'm currently reading that I like and wanted to share with the group. :)

Diana, I'll second that. So, that's:
Zombies/apocalypse
Erotic suspense
Paranormal/preternatural mystery

Preternatural - think outside of the normal, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, werecats...not really paranormal "ghosts and goblins", but more of nonmagical, but not "normal" people :)
hope that helps :)

Hmm... Not really. I can't see how werewolves, shapeshifters etc. are any less 'magical' than any other beings from paranormal fantasy (although werecats is a new one for me!). The excellent Being Human included ghosts alongside vampires, of course. Is this yet another invented sub-genre?
I'm sorry for all the confusion around preternatural. It's probably I just don't explain things well. :)
Don't worry about it, Diana.
As always, the genre poll will follow the Fantasy vote. Should there be multiple book nominations after that we'll hold the book poll pretty quickly, so be on your toes (like a ninja).

The poll for the October Other Book of the Month is now up:

Edited extra bit: small window for voting, so get cracking!

Any nominations are welcome but I would ask that anyone proposing (and preferably seconding) a genre has at least one independent book in that genre in mind. Any genre must be seconded to be included on the poll.
In addition, a reminder that a genre (or book, subsequently) that wins because of brand new members who have done nothing but join and vote or 'sleeper' members who are similar but have been around a little longer may be disqualified.
If we get a category that has but a single book nominated then obviously we'll go with that. If we get more than one we'll have a vote.
