For me it was The Catcher in the Rye. I just did not love that one. In general though I find it really hard to like a book I am forced to read. That's why I stink on the group reads. The minute someone says I have to read something in this amount of time the rebel in me kicks in and i blow it off. It's horrible because I do it even if I really want to read the book. I'm working on it.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) Canterbury Tales in college, I hated it because I had to do a project on it and I couldn't find any information on the innkeeper. We were each assigned a pilgrim and that was mine.

Jennifer | 229 comments Shakespeare. I'm not a fan, never will be. I don't even like Romeo and Juliet.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I managed to get through high school and college without having to read Romeo and Juliet.

message 6: by Blueberry (new)

Blueberry (blueberry1) Ha, I did to...only to go on to learn and then teach it to home school kids. Now I love him. :o)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I like the Shakespeare plays I read. I just never had to read Romeo and Juliet. It's only a comedy if no one dies in the play. :)

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I hated both Catcher in the Rye and the Lord of the flies. I reread them both as an adult.Still hated them. Grapes of Wrath when reread as an adult was a favorite. I think I was not mature enough as a sophomore in bhigh school for that book

message 9: by Petra (new)

Petra In high school I hated Animal Farm and The Old Man and the Sea. Took me years to read these authors again (love Owell; on the fence about Hemingway but want to read more).
In University, I hated My Ántonia and The Playboy of the Western World. I've since read more of Willa Cather, including My Antonia and love her writing. I haven't retried reading Playboy or the author's other works, if he has any.

Marlis | 51 comments The Old Man and the Sea. I thought it would never end. And then it did. And then …nothing.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Shakespeare is the first to come to mind, so I'm guessing that's what I disliked the most. Along with The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

message 12: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Marie | 55 comments a farewell to arms was awful. I got a d on the test and the teacher accused me of not reading it even though it took all summer to read

message 13: by Viola (new)

Viola | 1014 comments Great Expectations. Ugh! So LONG and wordy.

message 14: by Gaynor (new)

Gaynor (seasian) | 94 comments I hated "Faust" or whatever it was titled. The idea of selling your soul to the devil for some short term gain - abhorrent. However, I had a really good teacher for "Animal Farm" who talked us through everything that happened. It wasn't really about animals, it was a satire about politics (sorry, I'm sure you know that). I proceeded to major in politics at univ so it must have had an impact.
Loved Shakespeare, hated Hemingway.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I never read "Faust" or "Animal Farm"

message 16: by Louise (new)

Louise The Fifth Child *shudder* I will never read Lessing Again!

message 17: by Penny (new)

Penny Shukan | 17 comments Silas Marner by George Eliot. Enough said.

message 18: by Taylor (new)

Taylor 'night, Mother. I still get depressed just thinking about it.

Stacy (sjhensley) | 101 comments The Canterbury Tales.

message 20: by QueenAmidala28 (new)

QueenAmidala28 Uncle Toms Cabin and Animal Farm

message 21: by Gortrixie (new)

Gortrixie | 6 comments I loved Lord of the Flies. Also loved The Inheritors. I hated Waiting for Godot.

message 22: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristin_wright) | 7 comments Anything Nathaniel Hawthorne, and also, Catch 22. Ugh!

message 24: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4576 comments Lord of the Flies, it was so depressing, not simply the plot of the story, but what it said about human nature. At 15 years old, I was not the cynic I am today and everything in me rebelled at that book.

message 25: by Teri (new)

Teri | 4 comments Last of the Mohicans! Maybe if I had actually done the assigned reading I would have enjoyed it more. Then again, maybe not!

message 26: by Blueberry (last edited Feb 17, 2019 08:14PM) (new)

Blueberry (blueberry1) Works of John Locke by John Locke for high school American Government.

I read it after the movie came out and thought the book was awful.

Reforming (reformingcurmudgeon) | 16 comments Great Expectations in HS.

Jess Penhallow | 26 comments Anything by Philip Larkin I don't like being in that man's head

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I read Canterbury Tales in college and I hated it when we got to the end. Our Professor assigned us to one of the characters and I got the host. I couldn't find a darn blasted thing on the host and I looked through several books. So I winged it. Regardless to say, I didn't do very well.
