Justin (justinbienvenue) We all have an idea of how to make them or at least where to go to have them created for us but what about getting views for your book trailer? Youtube is obviously the number one place to post a trailer followed by your own website or blog but what about after these two spots?

Are there other places where an author can post their trailer? Is there a view generating secret that we don't know about? I believe book trailers are one of the most under utilized marketing tools and people forget that a simple view of their book can change things for you.

I've come up with a list of 6 ways to possibly generate book trailer views. I myself will also be implementing these ideas and if I get results or not I will report my findings, here are the list of ideas:

-Watch and comment on other peoples trailers/trailers within your genre: It’s a nice gesture to give feedback on trailers you watch. Keep it short by writing a sentence or two. Sometimes the person may respond back and may even check out your trailer. Also be sure to leave your name and the name of one of your books but no link.

-Post links of trailers on Social Media: I'd say Twitter may be a better bet with more of a chance as Facebook tends to do what they do best..hide your posts. Post it to any other social media site you’re a part of and remember to post every once in a while.

-Reference your trailer in threads on Goodreads: Your not tooting your own horn, your informing and using your own work as an example. Of course you’ll need to post in the appropriate threads such as ones devoted to posting trailer links. It also helps if you’ve created your own thread for it or post it on your own thread.

-Focus on Youtube: If you dedicate time on Youtube chances are you’ll find a whole lot of videos hopefully not all about cats. Try taking this time and editing your videos, look into similar ones and browse other videos and see what’s popular.

-Put them on your website: If your video components don't take up all the bandwidth on your webpage then post them there. If you get a lot of page viewers they may enjoy this and perhaps check it out.

-Make A Good Trailer/Word of Mouth: The idea is you want to make a good quality trailer and if you believe it is good then tell people about it. Tell friends and those interested in your work. Just kindly ask them to check out your trailer and ask what they thought of it.

If you have any tips or tricks to the method then please feel free to share.

Well, frankly if you don't have enough connections at least in my opinion, you would have little success in gaining recognition. At the moment, book trailers aren't a big thing for both authors and readers so that's another factor.

I'm not sure about other places for the trailers. Since they're trailers for books, you'd best stick with book-related sites. I only know of Goodreads and Shelfari (I don't even know if Shelfari is still alive).

Tips and tricks? I can only say, make connections/friends. Try to interact with your target readers on a regular basis. When they warm up to you, they are more likely to read your books and they will most likely end up liking them too. DON'T just message them randomly and say, hey read my book or watch my trailer and then they'll never hear from you again.

May Sage (maysage) I just thought about posting that question here as I'm sure there are some authors with video trailers.
Am I the only one having huge issues setting up an ad with YouTube? Like,Mir just goes to ad words account and tries to set up a stupid Google text add whatever I do, on an iPad, an iPhone, a toshiba and a Mac!

Justin (justinbienvenue) I don't know about ads with Youtube but I find I have an issue with Youtube in the sense that it's connected to Google. Although that is a different matter so I won't go off topic.

Most places that allow you to post video/trailers are fairly simple and most places have a Youtube sync option, if any of those are complicated I would suggest reading up on FAQ's or looking up the sites options in connection to Youtube.

Sometimes a simple read up can give you the answer whereas other times you may need to do a big of digging.

Cortez III Hey Justin:

I've got mine posted on You Tube and my website of course. But also on God Tube, Facebook, Daily Motion, Vimeo, and online retailers, Smashwords and Amazon. If you have any niche groups/sites you're a part of, see if you can post it on your Page along with the other info about the book and yourself. Keep hustling, Justin!

Angela J. Ford (aford21) | 5 comments Oh, here's another fun trick I'm testing out. Run a contest and have watching the book trailer as one of the entry options. It will generate a lot of views!

Justin (justinbienvenue) Good idea Angela!

Justin (justinbienvenue) Thought I'd revive my thread here. So I've made Tuesdays on Twitter #BookTrailerTuesday. What I do is use the hashtag and then schedule tweets for my book trailers to go out every two hours. I've had a few likes and retweets in the two times I've done it so far. I will also be posting my articles/blog posts I wrote a few months back on them out as well.

I encourage others to do the same if they'd like. If your on Twitter and would like to promote your trailers or have some opinions to share on them please feel free and use the hashtag #BookTrailerTuesday

Paul (paullev) | 5 comments Good idea, Justin. I'll definitely tweet about my trailers - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list... - and put in the tag this coming and every Tuesday. You never know where new sales come from, and every bit of promotion can help.
