Writing Help-Group For Everyone discussion

Hello, first-ever mod of this group Phoebe D. here.

So, I have taken into consideration that hardly any mods have been active, and that only around about 4-3 people in the group are commenting/posting. Which brings me to a conclusion:


As I see it, we only have two options left for this group;

Rewrite the entire group - that means, writing a new description, changing the group's name, and deleting all inactive members down to the few active ones, and try to restart the drive and moral of the group.

OR

Delete the entire group from existence.

Now, if you know of the joys of meeting a whole group of lovely people online, where you share a common interest, you might grow strangely attached to the people or group of people that you enjoy talking to.

Despite the fact that most of us will never meet in real life, we have all shared common goal - To attempt to become authors, or to cheer others on with writing, making sure they never quit what they love to do the most. Now, I know this is kind of long-winded for me to be typing this much, but, please.

Please take into consideration what would be better for the group; what would be better for you concerning this group.

So, I ask that you please all think carefully on this:

Revive the group, or delete it from existence like it never existed?

Revive.....This group is great. I would post more if more people responded to my posts. There are some that are in so many groups that they dont recieve notifications from here anymore. I am one of them but I check this group at least once a day.

I have the same problem.I have two groups and there are members who don't post but one of them is fairly new so I'm being patient with that one.It's a writing group.But the other I'm thinking of reviving it.I think you should do the same.Don't give up Phoebe.I've been quite busy and haven't posted much here.I'm guilty of that but I think it's a fab group,from one mod to another.

I say rewrite the group.

It's a bummer.Half the threads don't get used either.I work hard adding threads to get them interested,games etc...grr!

yeah I know right. I made a huge group for roleplayers and tried desperately to bring excitement to it and it worked nicely for a while until a few months ago. Now its like a gohst town....no one participates anymore.

I'm doing a Halloween scary story comp,never done one before.Have even started a scary story to get them in the mood with graphics ,one has joined in!Sent event invites out today.I will wait with baited breath for responses.
I thought it was just my groups that were inactive.

nope but I created a poll in one of mine......I will get to the bottom of it.

Revive. I'm sorry I'm so inactive, It's that I'm always grounded.

Sorry I haven't been around.I've been in the process today of combining my two groups together.I've brought the othergroup over to my writing group and am separating them into corners..I've changed the name a bit to combine them.Still working on it.As I've been doing it I've had two new members join.Ones a young author.

I hope you're listening to everyone Phoebe about your group.It's worth saving.

You have a lot of members.

In santala but no ones active.....I have members that have been in the group for months and never posted once. It is irritading.

It's the same for me Topaz.All the time and effort we put in too.Some people join and don't even post once.Although there's a couple who started posting the last couple of days.

I have a lot of non posters....

Phoebe,hope you are okay and everyone else,don't give up.
When I started groups I wanted to run many times but with the help of good friend's I carried on.
My good friend said once 'Treat your group(s) like a business."She has run many and I'm co- mod her present one but am solo mod in my own.
Her advice helped me.Luckily I have determination and cheek.LOL!
I still feel like running when the group's dead(like last night)..I just get on with my writing then anyway but there are days I get surprised and it's a teeny bit alive.

Don't give up and remember 'Every cloud has a silver lining'.

I know how it is.In my writing group I teach English and I'm not a teacher.It's all to help with the writing.Just revamped and brought two totally different groups together.Lol!

Whooo! I am on page 20 and not even close to finishing. I pity the printer. :P

well my essays are an english assignment......It is my final! Due oct. 31.....trick or treat.

I'm doing 20 chapters in my novelette.Up to chapter 7 but have had brain freeze today.LOL!

If I had a computer to myself I would write a novel.......but the only computer in my house, my grandma uses. It was a christmas present from our unckle to my sisters and I but we are not allowed on it.

Awe,you'll get your own one day Topaz.
Tablets are good too for writing.But that's what writing groups are for.To put your ideas into your own folder.

How can it be that there'so many members in this group and they stopped posting?There's a lot more than in mine and it's pretty quiet right now,it will buck up later.I have a quiz.

oh.......I dont have a tablet either. I use the schools's computer.I have paper but I dont like my own handwriting. I made several attempts to write a novel.

So,have you given up?
My group was slow and is fairly new.I have bad days and good days,true I don't have as many members,but even if they don't post on the group they post in polls.Sometimes only 3 or 4 post,some members haven't posted at all but post on polls.
A revamp,would certainly be the answer.
My friend Frenchies advice was good.
Even if only a couple post now and then it keeps it active.
So Phoebe,have you give up after all your hard work?
I felt like that many times but persevered.
My group is an asset to me cos it started me writing my own book and is teaching me stuff I never knew.lol!

I am sorry for not being active in the group. I am also a moderator of a couple of groups. One I am SURE I did not volunteer for. One day I just looked at my groups that I belong to and found out I was the moderator of the group.

I have not been involved with this group much because many of the threads, at least for awhile, were geared for a younger group. I am in my 60s. Because of it, I have a whole different perspective.

I have found out that about 10% are actually active. The group that I was volunteered for the moderator position has only about 30 members (She is an author that I have totally gotten burned out). That means only 3 people have even attempted to be active. Which doesn't last. I have found out that I have to keep things interesting by constantly promoting my groups.

In college I learned that in order to have a business continue to thrive you have to keep reinventing the group. Which takes a LOT of work. If questions don't change on a regular basis, once you have stated your opinion or thoughts and read the others what else is there.

Phoebe, from my perspective I would not drop any member, unless you are actually having a problem with them. If you do that you automatically prevent those members from ever being active. As I said, I haven't been active because this seems more like a young persons group than something that I can relate to. Change that and I will become more active.

Hi Dee.I'm so glad you posted.
A lot of points you just made I agree with completely.
I too have to keep promoting my group.
I just get our there and push myself forward.For a start I greet people who join my group.PM them with a nice message.Of course they don't post but they vote on polls and they are there,chat on the comments.These are busy people.
I wouldn't drop any of these members as I know they are going to post one day.One day a handful of members,next day or next week there's a busy time.

As I said in an earlier post.Treat your group like a business,don't give up,think of new stuff to keep people intersted.The layout and the welcoming look of a group and group description are important.

If you go to the moderators support group the problem of inactive members is happening in a lot of groups.
A friend of mine had about 2 people out of 130 posting yesterday but did she give up?No,she kept posting on her own,promoting books etc.
If it happens to me I keep my group active by writing a few short stories.Promote some books,post freebie books.A few of myposters are authors and writing at the moment.I get busy too with my book.We found out that to keep a group active a couple of posts every hour is all that is needed,even if you do them yourself.Lol!

Hi Everyone.Seems like we've all been busy.It happens,it's life and it doesn't mean we forget other things,just put them on hold for a while.Gosh,I'm happy if 4 or 5 people post in my group,but then another day it could be the whole lot of them!They turn up for the polls though.lol!

I am trying to help.I run my own fun writing group,am writing a novel and am willing to help turn this group around.

To be honest, I wouldn't have the courage to delete this group or it's members, anyway.
