Tammy | 41 comments Oh my goodness, I so hope Riyira Chronicles 3 comes out and I'm planing on reading Hollow World and The First Empire. So excited for Riyira!!

Tammy | 41 comments But why such a long wait for Riyira Chronicles? :(

message 5: by Frank (new)

Frank Shumaker (firefly1) | 61 comments I guess because Michael figures we will have our hands full with Rhune. Problem is we read these books like eye candy, in one or 2 sitting. We could buy into the Michael J. Sullivan book of the month club... 《;¤} ....maybe he can find some Sullivan semi-clones and Produce them like Patterson. He could form a group, like the group of 7 artists from Canada or the art enclave of Brother Cletus Behlmann in Texas (Brother Matthew's Xmas cards are world known). So why not a group of 5 or so writers that bounce ideas? Not sure which ones would be interested in such a project but if good stories is the plan, Sullivan is the key.

Tammy | 41 comments Lol, I know really! Im going to be Riyira starved by the time the 3rd Chronical comes out. I'm not sure what I'll read while waiting for Hollow World and then Rhune (which doesn't come out till late next year). I guess that's the one bad thing about loving books by an writer who is still writing the series out, you have to wait to read more.

@Frank - Yeah I'm a busy camper

@Tammy - Glad you are interested in the other books - the reason for the delay is because I have to wait to get feedback from readers after they finish The Rose and the Thorn. Not everyone gets the books right away and it takes time for them to read and express their views. So I can't even THINK about starting to write them until that data is in, probably in March or April. I already have a lot of notes and outlines for what I'll write next if the project is green-lighted. So it won't take me long to write, but then there is the editing, and getting into the production schedule of Orbit will take a long time (assuming they buy it). In many ways, if they reject it, it comes out quicker as self-publishing is much faster than traditonal ;-)

@Frank...it's funny because I'm done with books long long before you guys see them. I'm about 90% complete with Rhune - just need beta feedback and editing. But I won't even submit them to Orbit until the other two are written (or close to done). Of course their schedules may change all this if they sign them - but at that point they are "out of my hands." I'm not sure that I "play well with others" so having collaboration projects might not work for me. ;-)

Tammy | 41 comments I never before thought of the process involved in writing a book. Never realized it was so complicated, then again you are the first author that I know of that has written back to his readers and explained stuff. Well, I sure am looking forward to the day they are published.

message 10: by Robin P (new)

Robin P It's so delightful that you look for feedback from your readers. Totally the opposite of the stereotype of professional writers as recluses (like Salinger). You are following in the tradition of Charles Dickens, who responded to audience reaction, for example by beefing up the character of Sam Weller in The Pickwick Papers when audiences loved him.

@Tammy - it's interesting how the various projects overlap.

* Right now I'm getting close to sending Rhune out for feedback from my wife, then beta people

* While that is being worked on by others I'll start writing Book #2 of that series.

* Probably around the end of the year, I'll have to set that aside to go over copy edits for Hollow World.

* Since I'll already be "interrupted" I will probably make the changes based on external feedback the send that version to the publisher

* Then I'll pick-up writing book #2. Hopefully I'll have it "ready for external feedback" just about the time that changes come in for book #1.

Long story short...it's usually 2 or 3 projects that are in various stages at any given time and I have to start/stop as external feedback comes in.

@Robin - I love getting the feedback. A big part of why Gwen is given more screen time in The Crown Tower...and why (view spoiler) appear in The Rose and the Thorn is because people loved those characters and wanted to know more.

Frank Shumaker (firefly1) | 61 comments please don't do a James Patterson on us....《;¤} ....If it don't say Alex Cross any more I hide from it. Even my bookshop guy has cut back on his books. I just finished a Trilogy from Heath Pfaff and it was pretty good as a heroic fiction series ("cough" Gemmell..subliminal man). But all his books since have coauthors so I am a bit reluctant to dive in. I guess if you have a coauthor set up the time lines, pacing and continuity that is a big +, but changing coke to new coke requires a lot more overview so the flavor stays within tolerable limits (sounds like building a house)....shu

Frank Shumaker (firefly1) | 61 comments But I still like an idea like Philip Jose Farmer & his dungeon series. But he kinda lost control the last couple parts and the series devolved in a whole new direction. So, maybe my initial 5 Michal Sullivan smarta** remark would need a lot more coordination than 1 writer has time to give...shu

A lot of people don't realize that Patterson doesn't write his books. He even has a whole "publishing house within a publishing house" (we are with the same publisher) so he has quite the production cycle set up.

My problem is I will probably die before I can get all my stories out...but I'd rather have less books and have them be mine then to "Pattersonize" them.

Randee Lynn (randeelynn44) | 2 comments Thanks for the release schedule! I was so excited to see the possible #3 Riyria Chronicles and hope that more of Hadrian and Royce's first adventures will be published. The Riyria Revelations were amazing and some of my favorite parts were the "bickering" between Hadrian and Royce about their past jobs and who caused what. So, when The Crown Tower came out I was over joyed that we get to experience some of their jobs that had been previously mentioned. I loved seeing how the characters developed and interacted in The Rose and the Thorn, especially Royce. Thanks for your creative writing and I am eager to read Hollow World.

You are very welcome. As for more Revelations, here is a survey where I'm keeping track of such things.
