Jim G (greens131) | 2 comments I am half way through the book so far. I had to leave the book outside in my car, cannot bring it inside the office - I will spend the day reading it. Yesterday, I spent at least 1/3 of the day reading it - my boss just gave me, what I interpreted as a quizzical look. Dangerous book.

I love Stephen King. Haven't read him since Gerald's Game in 1997 (just too much blood). but he really is a cool guy (and he knows it). He established 4 very strong female characters, but took nothing away from the males. I read a NY Times Magazine article about his family, and he respects his wife's opinion very much - and apparently has for his entire career. NY Times review said this was a love song to AA. Given what a huge coke-head he was I am truly touched that he values his recovery. I love Abra, Lucy, Momo. There are obviously better writers, but the humanity he puts into his stories is tremendous. Things remain with me for decades: Asking a black pool of hungry slime in a pond "Do you love?" prior to leaping in the water. His prelude to a book of short stories in which he discussed two girls, school misfits, who died 10 years after graduating from the high school that he taught in - saying something like they were victims of a "hangover from high school"; What would Janis Joplin say to that? A beautiful person. And Abra, so far, just kicks butt. She first contacts Danny by writing hELLO on his chaulk board - when she was a little kid. What a doll.

Jim G (greens131) | 2 comments This is the first time that I have read Stephen King since 1997. I said to myself, I have had enough. The blood, the gore, the things etc. So, in reading this, it is reintroducing myself to him. The dialogue between the characters reminds me of The Dead Zone banter - cool people who care about each other caught in bizarre circumstances. I know that the author sold out commercially, this can go on and on. I am just wondering who is going to portray Abra in the movie. And with Katniss (btw, he plugs Hunger Games in the book !) the annoying girl in Twilight, etc, strong, hip, female teenage leads are popular these days. Stephen definitely went for the big commercial bucks. I realized that, and being a CPA by trade, I appreciate that (got to put food on the table). Several times he has used plot development devices called "deus ex machina" to move the story along, which is annoying. I am not really crazy about the choices that he makes in the plot, I know it could have been better. I am just grateful that at 1 am I hit a break in the story so that I could go to sleep. Otherwise, I would have been up all night reading. To use Stephen King's AA slogans one (page) is too many, and one thousand is never enough. A co-worker commented today that "you are really ploughing through this book, you must be a fast reader". No, I am very slow. But I don't have a choice. We have to see Abra through this dangerous situation, don't we?

Steph | 1 comments I read "The Shining" a long time ago and was so happy when I heard SK was doing a sequel....I've not been dissapointed with this story, it's great so far, I'm about 75% done. I'd love to know where SK gets his ideas!!

Karl (karlwireless) | 2 comments I finished the book. I won't make any spoilers, so no worries. I do feel the book started out a bit odd - then slowed down but it does pick up STEAM so keep at it!

lol...very nicely put Karl.

Karl (karlwireless) | 2 comments He does do a great job of not letting you feel very secure with any of the characters. Who will make it or who will cycle.
