For those of you who have had your head in a book for the past five days, there's been an official Goodreads announcement of policy changes on permissible shelf names and new review guidelines that has not been announced to all members. This is the link: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Joseph “Millennium Man” (millenniumman) | 204 comments I rarely write reviews. I don't read books to critic them.

The change in rules are important for a lot of people that do so.

What is going on?

The changes don't seem unreasonable to me? Is it because of my ignorance to something?

This change in rules was not announced to all the members of Goodreads. It was announced to the Feedback group only. The GR staff have now begun a systematic purging of reviews and shelves that don't meet their new rules, BUT haven't told most people about the rules. GR's staff has not addressed any of the questions that have arisen since they made their small announcement in a small group. They deleted one of my reviews last week without notice or explanation. Many people are now setting up accounts on a new site called Booklikes, which does not censor or delete one's writings. If you don't write reviews, then you shouldn't have a problem, but if you do, just be aware that censorship is taking place.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) My reviews are about the books and not the authors so I don't think I need to worry.

Not yet, but I suspect the time will come that only "positive" reviews will be allowed.
