A DIVERGENT ALL THE WAY!

I feel that Divergent has characters with more depth, more interesting plot and developed romance.

I loved THG but the sequels were very disappointing.

Cassie (lunaluv934) | 358 comments I'll have to reread Mockingjay...I couldn't get past the first few chapters :(

message 20: by Sibella (new)

Sibella | 2 comments Divergent!

I loved the Hunger Games, and Catching Fire, but Mockingjay kind of disappointed me. Also, The Hunger Games relies heavily on other novels :)

Agreed,I actually like The Hunger Games more then Divergent!!
I like Divergent but it's not my favorite.

message 22: by julia (new)

julia (julianevergrowup) Yeah Divergent was good but it wasn't amazing like The Hunger Games. And everyone keeps saying that they like Divergent better because even though they loved the first book in THG the series just went downhill from there... but does anyone else think that Divergent has just been going downhill? I loved the first book but then the second book was frustrating. First they were at Amity, then they went to Candor, then back to Dauntless, then Abnegation, and then Erudite! It was so weird! And at some point they were with the factionless... Also my favorite character died in the first book so the second one wasn't as good. And Tris was so annoying! She was trying to get herself killed! But it was obvious that she wasn't going to die because she's the main character! So that was frustrating. ALSO: I hate Tobias. He's a jerk. And even though he is supposed to be super brave and awesome because he only has four fears I think he's a coward. And he and Tris are an awful couple. They just don't work. At all. Tris is described as looking like a twelve year old and when Tobias was introduced his age was not mentioned and I thought he was 30... so that was weird. Plus I didn't really like the end of Insurgent. It was cool I guess but I wasn't as surprised as I should have been. It was obvious that there were people on the other side of the fence. But it didn't occur to me that the faction thing was just an experiment. But at the end when it's supposed to be all dramatic I was just like 'oh.' Honestly I am not that excited for Allegiant because I don't think it's going to be that good. I'm guessing a lot of new characters are going to be introduced because Veronica Roth keeps
killing everyone off. Right when we begin to get to know a character and start to like them, it's just BAM they're dead. The only characters that I like who are still alive are Christina and Uriah. Or did Uriah die? I don't remember... so yeah I don't think Allegiant is going to be very good. PLUS it is told from both Tris ad Four's perspective. I am not crazy about changing POV in books but I think it's going to be especially awful in Allegiant because I don't like Tris OR Tobias and since the POV changes that probably means they'll be separated. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing because I dislike them together more than I dislike them individually BUT if they're separated and it's Tris thinking about how in love she is and how she has to get back to Tobias so she can finally overcome her fear of 'attachment' think I'm going to scream. So... yeah. Go Hunger Games!

message 23: by Erica (new)

Erica (ericaevernight) we're talikn about the first BOOK am I right? so mine would be.....Divergent, because it had more action and true romance. (I love romance!!!)

message 24: by julia (new)

julia (julianevergrowup) I'm talking about the entire series because you have to consider the sequels when you think about the first book.

message 25: by Charis (last edited Nov 02, 2013 11:04AM) (new)

Charis | 6 comments That's no easy question.

Hunger Games: The first book was totally awesome. The second was worse, but still interesting. The third did an amazing faceplant, it just grew worse by the minute and the ending itself was a failure.

Divergent: I liked the idea with the factions, the beginning was great. By the end of book 1 and through most of book 2 it was rather dull. The final twist in book 2 made me have hopes for the series again, but to my dismay, book 3 never lived up to its promises. I think it was the right decision of Roth to [spoiler] thus the ending became somewhat stronger, but the passages after that just diminished the effect.

In conclusion, both series had an awesome(HG)/nice(D) start, a not-so-good middle and a disappointing(HG)/okay-ish(D) ending.

I guess I like the Hunger Games more, if only for the first book. (I'll just pretend the ending never happened)

message 31: by Shalini (new)

Shalini Agrawal (fayemorgana) | 6 comments Wow, I never imagined so many people would prefer Divergent over The Hunger Games. I like THG loads better. I felt Divergent lacked quite a bit in the world building department as well as the believable characters department.

message 32: by Abigail (new)

Abigail | 413 comments Definitely divergent. I love THG but I felt like it just kept getting worse as the series went on. Divergent will forever be one of y favorites :)

Why are last books in series so disappointing sometime? Allegiant and Mockingjay

message 34: by Basma (new)

Basma | 88 comments Allegiant wasn't disappointed at all !!!
It was the perfect ending for me :)
mockingjay was good .. But I wanted more information ....it didn't feel like an ending :(

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I Love Both Mockingjay (Team Peeta) And Allegiant :)

I Really Loved The Ending of Both Books

message 36: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) I most definitely prefer The Hunger Games. Better world building, better writing, more interesting characters, and no first person present tense point of view switches. The plot line of The Hunger Games is also much more cohesive, particularly when you consider all three books of each series.

message 37: by readeraz (new)

readeraz (zoethereader) | 474 comments I love Divergent so much more than The Hunger games. First off, Hunger games is a good 300 pages. Divergent is a 500 page book of world building, so much more character development, WAY better characters. Tris never annoyed me once in the ENTIRE series, but Katniss got really annoying sometimes in the books. Tris also showed much more development, she turned from a selfless girl from abnegation, into a woman who would do anything to save those around her. Time after time, she laid down her life to save everyone, and thats truly amazing. OH AND THERE WAS NO STUPID LOVE TRIANGLE IN DIVERGENT!!!! The writing is so much better in Divergent because Veronica uses more imagery and sensory detail. Veronica also has a way to make you connect with the characters when they feel pain, you feel pain too. I feel like Divergent is more memorable, because of that. If any of you asked me right now to name a Divergent quote, I could name several in a heartbeat, however with The Hunger Games *runs over to look at the book*. Don't get me wrong I liked the Hunger Games, but I hated the way the series was planned. After completing both series, Divergent was better planned everything that happened was for a reason. It wasn't like Mockingjay where Suzanne killed off my favorite characters for no real reason. Deaths were better explained in Divergent, because they were planned from the beginning, and they actually showed meaning.

good points Zoe!

message 39: by readeraz (last edited Dec 21, 2013 09:52AM) (new)

readeraz (zoethereader) | 474 comments Oh and Veronica knows how to write a male character. Four had so much more character depth then both Peeta and Gale combined. And the way the love story unraveled was much better in Divergent because there was never a time when the two characters didn't work together. Tris knew she loved four, and four loved her back, but in Hunger Games, Katniss was like "Oh I need to love Peeta to survive!" "Oh but I actually am starting to love him" "No wait I think I'm in love with gale" "Nah nah I think I like Peeta more" "Oh why can't I just make a decision"

readeraz (zoethereader) | 474 comments Thanks Basma! :D! I just overall loved the Divergent series because it was thought-out more. I feel like everything that happened was planned and it all flowed together for a better series. THG just didn't have that concept! Oh and Mockingjay was a HUGE disappointment in my eyes :(
