When is the last time you saw a play?

message 2: by Werner (new)

Werner | 2694 comments The last time I saw a play with live actors would have been in 2000-2003 (I don't know the exact date, except that it was during the Christmas season), when I went with my oldest daughter, who was a Bluefield College student at the time, to an adapted production of Dickens' A Christmas Carol put on by the BC Theater department. (Obviously, I don't go to plays very often!) I thought this one was pretty well done.

When was the last time you went to a sports event?

Margaret Metz Oscar Wilde (blush) I'm reading Dorian Gray right now and I haven't read anything by him before.

When was the last time you did something scary?

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Quit my full-time job as a warehouse manager to pursue a part-time job as a librarian, which is my career goal.

When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?

message 5: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Metz Today. I was watching a video of a baby laughing at his daddy. I think it must be nearly impossible to not at least smile when a baby is laughing.

When was the last time you regretted a purchase?

message 6: by Werner (new)

Werner | 2694 comments For me, that's an easy question, since it's in the last few days. I regretted buying my copy of Novel Ideas-Fantasy. Fortunately, it was a remaindered copy, and I only spent a dollar on it.

When was the last time you went to see a movie in a theater?

Reggia | 2533 comments Not sure if it counts as I do this daily at work, today was no exception. I did approach a neighbor a couple months ago... and I often greet others when out walking or hiking.

When was the last time you went to a state fair?

message 8: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Metz I don't think I've ever been to a state fair - at least since I was old enough to remember. When I was young we spent most of our time overseas (Army brat). When we got home, I joined the Army and headed off to Korea. Then I married into the Army. I ended up having severe allergy and health problems that make being outside very difficult.

When was the last time you changed your mind on an important issue?

Werner | 2694 comments I'd always been opposed to minimum wage laws, believing that they weren't effective and did more harm than good. As a result of an eye-opening article in The American Conservative, though (I don't recall exactly when, but it was several years ago), I modified my position and now support a living minimum wage. (Though I'm still opposed to "Band-Aid" measures that fall far short of that level.)

When was the last time you read a book or story that was in a genre you don't usually read or like?

I don't usually read mysteries (although years ago I did enjoy many of Lawrence Sanders's books). Recently I thought I had found a good mystery author, Harlan Coben. I started reading his book, Fool Me Once.

I was happy to find that it kept my attention... for about the first 150 pages... but then the pace slowed down and the plot started getting more involved with too many people to keep track of. I was no longer enjoying it. Since I had other books waiting to be read, I decided to give up on it.

I'm wary of mystery books. The ones I enjoy are few and far between. However, years ago, I did enjoy the "Spenser" books of Robert B Parker.

NEW QUESTION:
Do you save the emails you receive from relatives and friends or do you delete them after a short time?

(As for myself, I'm an email hoarder. :) I save most of my emails and categorize them. I enjoy knowing they are there ... I don't know why ... I just do. Every once in a while I find them useful for reference, but not too often.)

Seven years ago and the play was "A Christmas Carol," and I saw it with my step grandchildren who were from Honduras and they were enchanted.

I save some of my emails but not all. Mostly I save the ones I want to forward.

Werner | 2694 comments Unless I need to refer to them for some reason, I don't save e-mails from family and friends. Once I've read and replied to them, I delete them to keep my inbox as uncluttered as possible. (It fills up quite rapidly as it is.)

When was the last time you recommended a book to a friend (on Goodreads, or in some other context)?

I recommended the book The Cider House Rules by John Irving to my sister. I even bought a copy for her but haven't given it to her yet. It's about the very controversial subject of abortion. I wanted her to see how complicated the issues are. After I read the book, I was in a quandary because it seemed to show that whatever path one took, there would be suffering. The book still makes me think about the problem. I don't want to discuss it here but for people who are very sure of their opinions, it's a book which makes one think twice about one's opinions.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) NEW QUESTION: What college did you attend and why did you choose that college?

(As for myself, I went to Hunter College in NYC because tuition was very low ($10.00 a term to start; later it went up to $20.00 a term). Because I wasn't from NYC (I lived Yonkers, NY), I had to promise to become a teacher because there was a teacher shortage. I couldn't have afforded college any other way. (Books were free, on loan from the college.) What a bargain that school was! NYC is very liberal-minded when it comes to educating it's citizens.) This is what Bernie Sanders wants for all US citizens!)
