Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments The Scarecrow was released on May 26th. I rushed out and bought it on Tuesday, devoured it on Wednesday and am depressed today (Thursday) because I have to wait until October for Connelly's next novel, Nine Dragons.

As usual, Connelly has woven a fast-paced thriller that I didn't want to put down. He always manages to intertwine timely issues with his tales of murder and mystery. Protagonist, Jack McEvoy is facing lay-off in the newspaper industry as the industry is suffering from the effects of on-line media coverage. Chasing his last story, he confronts a serial killer who manipulates the world wide web to hunt his victims and punish his enemies. I found the internet traps and privacy intrusions to be almost as threatening as the serial killer. This was a fantastic thriller!

I was happy to see Jack McEvoy back in the spotlight, after his debut in The Poet. Hopefully, Connelly will continue entertaining us with this character. Maybe he will eventually meet up with Harry Bosch. There are enough threads in this book and others that could bring the two together. Connelly is king!:)

Stephanie I have heard good things about Connelly, and look forward to reading The Poet for Busy as a Bee books. Many people are talking about The Scarecrow, and it sounds like a fun summer read. How many books are between The Poet and The Scarecrow? I like to read in order...

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments The Poet is the first book featuring Jack McEvoy. He gets mentioned in another Connelly book featuring Harry Bosch, but he is not critical to that story line. The Scarecrow is the second book he is featured in. I like to read series in order also, however it isn't necessary to read The Poet in order to appreciate The Scarecrow.

Connelly, has written over 20 books. I love his Harry Bosch series, which begins with The Black Echo. These I would read in order. He has written two books featuring a lawyer, Mickey Haller, which are top-notch. I've been reading him since 1996 and one of the things I appreciate about his books are the threads he uses to make connections with the characters in his other books.

Jen (jenzin) I too, love Connelly's Harry Bosch series. They are all very well written. Now I am going to have to make a trip back to B&N (was just there yesterday!) to pick up The Scarecrow.

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments It's worth the extra trip. If you haven't read The Poet pick that up too. That was the first Connelly book I ever read and I've been hooked ever since. Enjoy!

Jen (jenzin) Yes, Lisa, The Poet was good! I have read all of them except for the new one.

Stephanie I loved The Poet and can't wait to read this one. I also have The Narrows at home right now, but I haven't gotten into it yet.

Welcome to the Church of Connelly! I'll convert you yet. :)

Stephanie Ha - you alone have made my TBR shelf even more unmanageable. Not to mention your introducing me to a site that I can make lists on.

Quiltgranny Hey guys! Guess who is coming to town to our locally owned bookshop in October? You guessed i! MC, himself. My Hubby and I already have our tickets and book reserved for the author signing/reading. We just received our signed copy of the Scarecrow from our friend's shop in Seattle (The Mystery Bookstore), where he visits quite often.

One of our favorite reads.

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments I'm envious, but I hope to see him before you. He' slated to be at the National Book Festival in Washington, DC on September 26th. I'm planning on going for the first time and hope nothing comes up to keep me away. There are lots of fantastic authors scheduled for the event. I'll post a link for anyone who's interested.

Stephanie I am so envious. Books on the Nightstand podcast and group has been talking a lot about the NBF, and it sounds like so much fun. Too far away from Cleveland...maybe when this teacher retires...in 25 years...

Quiltgranny I have to admit (hanging head) that I had never been to an author event until this past Monday. I heard and met Sarah Dunant (Birth of Venus, Sacred Hearts) and she is absolutely fantastic. Some of the folks there say that MC is great too!

I've got tickets for John Irving, Sue Monk Kidd, MC, David W (author of Edgar Sawtelle) as well. I'll check out that bookfest site. How lucky!
