Sunny (travellingsunny) Our October group read from 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. ENJOY!

Sunny (travellingsunny) I've just finished all of the opening letters and chapter one. Hello, Elizabeth, more than sister. LOL!

There were times I struggled with this but it was a quick read, I finished it in an afternoon. My issues were with the depth of understanding and language of the monster. Somehow I was able to suspend my disbelief enough to accept that such a monster had been created but not enough to be able to accept that his accelerated learning.

Sunny (travellingsunny) I'm not finished, but so far, I'm a bit disappointed. I mean - I read four letters and five chapters before he even created the monster. THEN, the monster was nowhere to be seen for ANOTHER FIVE chapters. AND THEN, after we get to meet the monster, he goes into hiding and we read more about Frankenstein's travels. I just want to read more about the monster. I'm up to chapter twenty now...

I certainly understand where you re coming from Sunny. The more interesting parts are when Frankenstein and his monster talk. While there are some scary bits I wouldn't classify this as horror.

It's a work of psychology and philosophy. Any film adaptation has never understood that. It's really in essence a reworking of themes found in Paradise Lost - about man and God and moral responsibility.

Ctgt You're right Jonathan. The book was worlds better than the creature feature movies.
