Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week (Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace)
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Karen and I've played a few of the rounds of bingo. I'm really bad at naming things but I'll try to think of something.

A visit to random team name generator came up with Rocky Fireballs, so, um, yeah, even random team names elude me. :)

I'd rather not be captain if at all possible.

Looking forward to this round!

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Hi Karen, Ladies

I am Michelle, I live in Scotland so I am likely in a different time zone from you all.

We have had our summer holiday this year so I will be around inbetween running after my 3 babies. My younger two have birthdays coming up, my baby girl starts school next month and we pick up our puppy in two weeks so I would rather not be captain.

I'm not so good with names but I will have a think & get back to you.

I look forward to reading with you all.

message 9: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments Hi team!

I'm Thenia, I live in London and I've played in and captained Bingo teams many times.

I usually try brainstorming names by looking at facts about the team and round number, which would be 5 and 12 for this one. Maybe that would help inspire us to find a team name...

Hmmm... 5 ~ "a handful", 12 ~ "moon walkers" (as apparently twelve people have walked on Earth's moon according to wikipedia) or perhaps "book knights" (as 12 were the knights of King Arthur's round table).

Any ideas?

If Jessica, too, doesn't want to be captain, I suppose I could put on my captain cap once again.

Looking forward to the first shelf!

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I was thinking along the same lines but got stuck on 'Order of the Pheonix' mostly cause I went to Hogwarts this month so have been re-reading & watching the movies.

First shelf is up and it's Strong Heroine. Have fun choosing your books :)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Regarding captaining - I don't mind the keeping track part. The shelf call just isn't at a good time for me to get online quickly to let people know about it. This is pretty much the earliest I can so it and sometimes it isn't until the next day.

So I'd rather not, but can do it if no one else wants to. I'd just ask if someone else in a better time zone could jump in and post the shelf when called.

Speaking of shelves - for Strong Heroine I'm going to read Bound by Flames (Night Prince, #3) by Jeaniene Frost

I'm still pondering my Free Space book.

Sandra | 25908 comments As a side note you can't have Voracious Readers as it is too close to Team #8's name Vor8ious Readers :)

message 17: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments The shelf announcement is at a good time for me, 9pm. I always check before bed, or when I get the bambino's down and get the house put back together.

I've been on a Team 5 before. I remember we tried all the -
Foxy Five
Five Alive

That kind of thing.

Jessica has still to check in, she may want the captain hat. I could do it if nobody else wants to. I just don't know how busy I am going to be until we settle into our new school routine in August. If you have any experience with someone who has Autism, you'll understand.

Thenia, I keep forgetting you live over here. Did you go to the London Booksigning in April? Will you be going to any of the big ones next year?

message 19: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Sorry, it's been a rough couple days at work.

Is anyone GR friends with Jessica? I've never had a team member not show before. How long should we give it?

Michelle - if the shelf call is a good time for you and you can post it that would be great. I can deal with the rest of the captaining (and haven't done it for a while so I'm due). But I'll willingly abdicate if the 4th team member wants it. :)

Thenia | 977 comments Shelf #1: Strong Heroine

Carnal Secrets (The Phoenix Pack, #3) by Suzanne Wright Carnal Secrets by Suzanne Wright ~ ★★ (7/17/2015)

Review:

Shaya and Nick's story, in which we find out why he hadn't claimed her and a human extremist group appears and stuff happens.

While I usually enjoy a good heartbreak story before the reconciliation and happy ending, this one somehow fell short. Nick does his best to make up for his mistakes, Shaya, who is a submissive but not really, has him running around because she has abandonment issues and can't trust him, he keeps trying, assuring her that he won't leave her, she plays hard to get, gives in a little but still holds back, and so on and so forth.

In the meantime, people from their old packs appear and hang around for some reason, since apparently nobody works or has anything better to do, bad bad humans who also have nothing else to do stalk them all and plot nefarious plans and bring on the hate, and out of the blue we get deathly violence, which is of course justified because they had it coming.

A lot of repetitions, scenes where nothing happens dragging on and on, a few smart ass jokes, over the top macho alpha-ness and two dimensional characters, in a book that I enjoyed less than the previous two.

Not sure if I'll read the next one, Dark Instincts, which is Marcus's and Nick's sister Roni's story.

I looked it up days after it took place, unfortunately so I didn't go. I don't really know what's what yet, since I haven't even been here a year, but I'll find out and make sure to go next time!

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Bound by Flames (Night Prince, #3) by Jeaniene Frost

Shelf: Strong Heroine - Week 1
Book: Bound by Flames
Date Finished: 7/18/15
Rating: ★★★

I think I'm alone in this but I far, far prefer Bones to Vlad as a hero. I think Vlad was great as a secondary character to stir the pot but he's a little too controlling "alpha" for me. I've mentioned in previous reviews, he's a too torture happy and way too quick to do things people don't want "for their own good". But i do like Leila and I always enjoy a visit to the Night Huntress world so I guess I put up with Vlad.

The second half of this book far surpassed the first for me. The first half seems like a story we've seen too many times with Leila being captured and tortured (again). And some of what went on there was just, odd, for lack of a better word. Once that's dealt with, the second half zipped along better for me. We see some friends from previous books but the plot still seemed a little scattered and best not looked at too closely.

Overall, it was a fun end of the week book for me. But far from my favorite in this world. Still, I'm sure I'll read the next one as events at the end set up intriguing things for the next.

From what I heard this year was a bit of a nightmare. They do it in April every year though so keep an eye out for it. I know of 2 others next year. Birmingham & Edinburgh. If you are interested I can give you the facebook pages for info. I have my tickets for Edinburgh next year. There's one in Aberdeen next month also, but I'm not going and the next York one is 2018 which they are currently planning.

The move makes sense, cause I was honestly shaking my head and swearing up and down that you did not live in London. I figured I must just have forgotten since our last team game.

I second what Sandra said about Dark Instincts, I already have my copy for her to sign next year :)

Yup, I moved from Greece in late October, so you were right. :D

I've never been to a booksigning before and I'm curious, so I'll make sure to check out London's next April - thanks for the info!

Still no word from Jessica...

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 740 comments Free Space Shelf :Kitty Takes a Holiday
Kitty Takes a Holiday (Kitty Norville, #3) by Carrie Vaughn
Date Read: 7/21/2015

Rating ****
Review: I'm liking Kitty a lot more as the series goes on. I never disliked her but as the series progresses, I can see her growth and I am starting to feel like she's a friend.

I love her little pack, Ben and Cormac. We learn more about both of them in this one. I'm not 100% sold on the romance but it's believable because I don't think they're totally convinced either. It makes the relationships in UF feel more real than the insta-love we usually get in PNR.

I thought the skinwalker aspect was interesting and that whole family was seriously wacky.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and seeing what's next for Kitty, Ben and Cormac.

I'm not clamoring for it but I've done it before and I don't mind doing it.

message 44: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments Thanks for joining Christina!

I'm fine with Karen as captain - if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask, of course.

I like Midnight Avengers, but now that they mention it, I'm curious to see what kind of name the Ninjas would pick for us...

message 45: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Welcome Christina! Thanks for stepping in!

Hmmm, I kinda like Ravishing Tarts. :)

Christina - if you don't mind being captain that would be awesome. I've done it before and normally don't mind but my job is a little more intense than usual the next three months. I have time to read but getting online while mentally alert enough to keep track of everything can be a little difficult.

I should pick out my free space book after the shelf call tonight.
