What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I was trying to remember a book or series of books I read as a teenager in the early 90's - it could have been published in the 80s or 90s. Watching a trailer for the Host movie made me remember it. It can't remember any names for them.

I think there could have been three books. So what I can remember of the plot was that most people had disappeared of the Earth and there were only a few teenagers left and this group was trying to figure out what happened and they were on a journey somewhere to find answers.

*spoiler alert*

I remember a plane, a labyrinth and that in the end it was aliens who had taken everyone. When the people agreed to share their bodies with the aliens they were returned, the aliens made most people better (personalities were completed by the aliens or something) but once they got back some of the people were angry because the teenagers had made this deal for all of humanity.

That's what I can remember anyway, any help is appreciated - it's been bugging me as I'm usually pretty good at figuring these out.

Besides the ending, do you remember any other sci-fi elements (spaceships, robots, etc)? What category did this fall under? Sci-fi, suspense, horror, etc?
