Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Trying to do group reads here at OGSG in the past didn't work out. (I tried for a few years in fact).

Since I last tried, our group has grown, however, we have many folks from around the World here in OGSG now, not just from the US so trying to do traditional group reads here again I think would be too complicated. (What is available book wise here in the US may not be available overseas and vice versa, not to mention the different climates globally).

So it dawned on me today to create a Buddy Reads section for OGSG.

How this works:

If you want to read a gardening related book (how-to, memoir, gardening themed related fiction, etc.) you create a thread with the book title and the date you would like to start reading & discussing it as your thread title.

Example- Say I wanted to start reading and chatting about Green Thoughts by Eleanor Perenyi on October 15, my thread title would be: Green Thoughts - 10/15/13.

Do not use "Open" as a start date - please pick an actual date. From experience in other groups, using "Open" leads to little interest, if any at all.

The first comment in your thread would be the book title, author name and the description of the book via copying from goodreads (or simply type the synopsis from the back cover). You can also link to the description, but, please also include the description in your opening comment in the thread. This way, those interested can immediately read what it's about and decide if they'd like to read and chat about it with you.

Make sure when you create the thread, you put it in the Buddy Reads folder.

If you want to join in on a Buddy Read, just comment in that thread.

Then as of the start date, you can begin reading and chatting about the book!

Remember: Spoilers Are Always Possible In Any Book Chat!!!

Here's a link to an example thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

If you need help with creating a thread or placing a thread in the Buddy Reads folder, just let me know.
