The idea, to put it simply, is to celebrate giving away and receiving scary books on halloween.

Watch Neil Gaiman explain the tradition of All Hallows' Read over here:

When I first saw this (last year), I immediately thought this was a brilliant idea - and so obvious, really! It's surprising that nobody else has thought of this before.

We don't get trick-or-treaters where I live (block of flats) otherwise I'd be looking for scary kids books to give. (I wonder if the kids would be thrilled or disappointed not to get candy?)

It would save them from all the sugar overdose ! :D

I think it brilliant too, especially since it celebrates the idea of books and reading, everyone needs more traditions like that.

Oh, handing out scary kids books is a great idea. Maybe instead of treats for my son's class, I'll give out books...

Ember Air (air-bear967) | 1 comments Diamond Comics "sponsors" (they use that term, but it really means that they just offer an amazing discount) people to give out Halloween-themed comics to children on the holiday. They sell them in bundles of 50 and 100 for, comparatively, cheap prices. The comics are usually similar to the Free Comic Book Day comics, besides the theme. In the long run, it has honestly been even cheaper than candy, you get to support a great cause (children's literacy), and the kids have always loved it! I absolutely adore the All Hallow Reads tradition and was so happy when it started up! I think it is wonderful and gives me hope for humanity that it has not only lasted this long, but is still thriving!
