As it's the month of Halloween, here's a creepy M.R. James story. You'll never feel comfortable sleeping in a room with a spare bed again.

What I particularly like about M R James' stories is that he doesn't always feel the need to explain the whys and wherefores of the ghostly happenings - which adds to the general sense of unease I think.

I'll never blow a whistle that I find. Only ones I've bought brand new from a shop!
