Your book sounds like a lot of fun. I'll check it out. I too have the love/hate thing with L.A.! More the love.

Do certain songs influence how you write a scene?

Thanks!

thank you...! :)
what is it you love and hate about los angeles? i think, because i grew up here, i am kind of bored of it and i don't really love how strip mall it is now. i only really miss the beaches and the mexican food when i am away. it's also pretty sunny here, which i think makes it hard to sit inside and write.

a lot of songs might influence how i write. but i think it's more like, i know what i want to write about, and then i will listen to songs or maybe a radio station i like on itunes, and then one will come on and i will FEEL it...it will flow. it's like the muse wakes up and pushes the mood into the words.

music is very important to me and i think it always helps the mood of a scene when there's a song to go along with it...just like a movie. because a book is pretty much a movie in your mind, right?

thanks again for your question. :)
and let me know what you think about the book!
if you are interested in reviewing it, let me know because we just released the ebooks a couple of weeks ago and it would be easy to get you one.

Mariana Madeira (MariM2) | 4 comments I have not had a chance to read your book yet, but I'm writing anyway because I had an LA punk club-kid year when I was a teen, so I understand the wonder of that time. Am I correct in assuming that this is at least semi-autobiographical?

hi mariana....thanks for stopping by. :)
when was your la punk club year? i had a few of those, too...but i was in jr high with green bangs. :)

i dunno if i would call it semi-autobiographical. there are loads of pieces that come from real life, but i think most books are written this way, even if they're sci-fi or fantasy...they just changed the characters and the environments.

it might be a teeny tiny bit. but it's a lot of stories i wanted to string together and that needs a lot (a lot) of pure fiction. tho, it's possible. my theory about jd salinger has always been that he became a recluse BECAUSE catcher is a true story. so maybe...you're a little right. :)

here is an interview i did on bbc radio show about the heavy metal scene in the book and below that is an interview that asks me some more details re:your question...in case you are further interested.

thx again for stopping by! :) \m/

Pamela | 56 comments A book is definitely a movie in my head when I read it. So, yes, I hear you!

While I'll happily read your book, I'm not the biggest blogger in the world, so you don't want me to blog about it, trust me!

I love L.A. It's very magical. I hear you on the strip malls. Blech. And I hate the traffic here. But the beach and the mountains and the diversity in this city is amazing.

Congrats on getting your book out as an e-book.

Feel free to FB me!

Best,

Pamela DuMond
