Whitney (wsquared) | 68 comments More Than This has two starred reviews and tied for second in our October reading poll. What qualities make this stand out as a Printz contender?

Maureen (mhsquier) | 79 comments This is a beautifully written book and a bona fide contender that excels in several of the Printz criteria. The themes in this book are thought provoking to say the least - what is real? Is there more to life than meets the eye? Are humans allowing technology (the Internet) to take over their lives? Is there more (to life) than this?

The setting of the book almost becomes a character, especially in the first part of the book. Ness's description of a barren, desolate landscape reflect Seth's own feelings.

The characters, many of them flawed people, are well written, and their voice seems authentic to the story. The explanations behind what seem their biggest issues are revealed layer by layer. The story itself is also revealed in episodes through dreams, flashbacks, and conversations with Seth's unlikely companions.

Even the book cover's design is reflected in the book, as Seth has to progress through a series of doors to gain entry into the prison building.

Getty Hesse In addition to all that Maureen has said, I would like to add that it portrays its gay protagonist honestly and sensitively, which was wonderful.
