David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments A good and fitting ending. I think people who didn't like the Farseer ending would appreciate this one more.

I forgot to mention one moment that made me laugh out loud in a previous chapter - Nettle skill flying with Tintaglia and recommending that Chalced would be a very nice place for a couple of hungry dragons to visit and feed. Whenever you feel a little hungry Tintaglia - Chalced is the place.

Rob (robzak) | 432 comments I was really happy with this book. I would have liked more with Patience, but otherwise I really loved it.

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments I thought there would be more made of the Piebald story seeing they were a big part of the first two books. It just seemed to fizzle out. But I didn't need it and I don't see how they could have been fit into this book anyway

Emotionally Fitz really isn't the wisest, is he?
But then, as he remarks to Nettle, he did grow up amongst guardsman, not in a family and with hardly any women around. I'm sure that leaves a mark or two.

that was a very worthy ending to a really fabulous trilogy. i didn't think this book is the strongest in the bunch, but it was really good nonetheless!

it's true that the whole piebald story really fizzled out. so important at the start and then, poof, gone. i guess that's a choice when you write in the first person. but it's odd for Hobb to include the war and the massacres. i guess she wanted the show at leasts a bit that Old Blood is standing up for itself, which is a big parallel towards Fitz who is finally standing up for himself?

I too wished a bit more Patience and Nettle. I think they are such cool characters. I did enjoy all the going back and forward of Riddle to Molly's house and how he brought back all the news though!

the one thing i was hoping for the moment it's mentioned that Hap would become a minstrel, is that Fitz would allow Hap to tell the tale of who Fitz/Tom. it would be a strong turnaround and perhaps too big for Fitz as a character, but it would have been lovely

It's the only one of the nine I've given 5 stars to.

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments I think I'm going to give this one 5 stars as well(when I'm finished the review). It was certainly different to the other two. One thing it has that the others don't have is that there is a long wind down from the climax. Once the Pale Lady is defeated and the Fool is brought back there is really no more dramatic tension as far as action goes. But Hobb still manages to create tension and another climax in Fitz reconnecting with his family - it sounds boring but it isn't really. I found myself gritting my teeth and face palming as Fitz stumbles along from awkward moment to awkward moment. I liked it.
