I forgot to mention one moment that made me laugh out loud in a previous chapter - Nettle skill flying with Tintaglia and recommending that Chalced would be a very nice place for a couple of hungry dragons to visit and feed. Whenever you feel a little hungry Tintaglia - Chalced is the place.

David Sven wrote: "Ch 36 - No more secrets. Fitz' encounter with Molly and then the whole family was awkward - but at least he's put himself right out there."
Emotionally Fitz really isn't the wisest, is he?
But then, as he remarks to Nettle, he did grow up amongst guardsman, not in a family and with hardly any women around. I'm sure that leaves a mark or two.

that was a very worthy ending to a really fabulous trilogy. i didn't think this book is the strongest in the bunch, but it was really good nonetheless!
it's true that the whole piebald story really fizzled out. so important at the start and then, poof, gone. i guess that's a choice when you write in the first person. but it's odd for Hobb to include the war and the massacres. i guess she wanted the show at leasts a bit that Old Blood is standing up for itself, which is a big parallel towards Fitz who is finally standing up for himself?
I too wished a bit more Patience and Nettle. I think they are such cool characters. I did enjoy all the going back and forward of Riddle to Molly's house and how he brought back all the news though!

the one thing i was hoping for the moment it's mentioned that Hap would become a minstrel, is that Fitz would allow Hap to tell the tale of who Fitz/Tom. it would be a strong turnaround and perhaps too big for Fitz as a character, but it would have been lovely

It's the only one of the nine I've given 5 stars to.
