First person, hands down

I don't know! TMI is third person... but I do like first person too...

message 4: by Inda (new)

Inda (indaherwood) I like first person personally. It's also way easier to write a character that way.

message 5: by Melek (new)

Melek (chaissar) Depends on character and story. If you need to get into the head of your character to write the story properly, you use first person. If you need multiple eyes to figure the story out, then you use third person.

Personally, I prefer first person. It is better to see what the protagonist see, think and feel.

message 6: by Mika (new)

Mika Wesley | 121 comments It depends on the book. In percy Jackson I like first person. In harry potter I like 3rd person.

message 7: by Ren (new)

Ren (renma) I think it depends on the story's main character. I read something about that from John Green's site. He said he wrote "An Abundance of Katherines" in third person because the main character, Colin, isn't really good at narrating stories - let along his own - so John just wrote the story in third person. :) So it really depends on how the story goes and what kind of person the main character is and stuff ^.^

Lara (laracinaroglu) | 10 comments I really LOVE first person. But third person can give you more information! So, depends on the genre of the novel!

message 9: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahroboto) | 92 comments Yea it definitely depends on the book, sometimes when there's a series told in first person I can get super irritated with the narrator after being in their head so long, other times I don't have that problem.

Plus with first person I feel like you miss out on tons of information and sometimes it's frustrating when you don't know things just because the narrator doesn't know and you really only see things/people from a very limited perspective.

message 10: by Wayan (new)

Wayan i prefer first person but sometimes it's better from a third persons POV i think it depends on the lot and how you choose to use it.
like in the fifth wave they used first and third persons POV

s (cherrybelugas) I think first-person is cool, cause you can hear what the person's thinking, but then you are kind of limited to only their opinion. I guess it depends on the book for me, also. In PJO first-person adds a funny commentary and mystery, because you only know what Percy knows, but sometimes not knowing any other views is annoying...I think you're closer to the character in first-person, though.

message 12: by Resa (new)

Resa (dunstan) | 93 comments Both. I use to only like 1st person until I read the mortal instruments series (1&2 so far) and that is told in 3rd person and I fell in love with it. I like both point of veiws, but it can also depend on what the story is and the type of characters there are. It was different to be reading a story told in 3rd person, but I loved it and now can't really live without the mortal instruments series.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I like both. I really enjoy writing, and reading, both, though I suppose I'm more towards reading 3rd. Writing 1st is far easier than reading it, in my opinion, though a really good 1st person POV book can't be beat. It also depends on if your voice is limited, not omniscient. I like knowing what all of the characters are thinking!

It depends but mostly 1st and I also really like alternating POVs. :)

message 15: by s (new)

s (cherrybelugas) Why? For me it depends on the writing and characters.

message 16: by Erin (new)

Erin Vastag It really depends.

I think I like third person... There's a main character/ POV, but the story can go more places with multiple POVs.

message 18: by Tayla (new)

Tayla Potayta (taylapotayta) third person always confuses me, i love first. You really feel like you know the character

message 19: by Chantae (new)

Chantae B. when writing first person but it doesn't bother me either way but if I haven't been paying attention to what I read third person can confuse me

message 20: by Dalia (new)

Dalia | 71 comments First person, because the writing is usually a lot better. But I do love reading third person series as well. TID,TMI,HoH are pretty good, while Twilight is terrible even when it comes to the writing style of it.

message 21: by A (new)

A H First person. Connects me to the character.

message 22: by Josephine (new)

Josephine | 85 comments first person because third person sometimes gets to confusing.

message 23: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 354 comments It's impossible for me to say. It really depends on a lot of different things. I tend to write in third person more often than not, but I think that's more to do with the stories than it is to do with preference.

I will say, as some had pointed out that third person is too confusing or not as personal, sometimes first person seems too unbelievable and detaches me from the story. Like... Really? This character contains this much literary prowess? Especially when it's in present tense instead of past. I.E. "I'm firing my gun". Well focus on that, buddy, tell me about it when you're done.

message 24: by Jessica (new)

Jessica First person, I don't really like reading in 3rd person.

message 25: by Connie (new)

Connie (proseandconnie) | 1027 comments I don't have a particular preference, as I've read and loved books with both.
However, when there are several prominent, interesting main characters, I like third person because typically the author will let you see different characters' thoughts. Third person also makes it seem like you're right there watching what's going on, instead of listening to someone else's tale.
That being said, first person has its advantages. You get to read more about their inner thoughts and feelings, which builds a connection with the reader.
