With Halloween coming, I thought I'd ask those readers who love a little scare in their books - How scary do you like it? Hide under the covers scary? Sleep with the light on scary? Have nightmares for weeks after scary? Or maybe you prefer to forgo the scare element altogether?

BTW, who is dressing up for Halloween and as what?

I like some scary. I don't do the Horror genre but I do like some suspense/scary elements to some degree to keep me at the edge of my seat for a bit. As long as everything has the HEA and happy happy at the end.

I don't do much for Halloween. My daughter will dress up and go out but I'd just as soon stay in and enjoy at home. No costumes for me. I have dressed up in the past and gone to parties and such but I guess I grew out of it.

Paganalexandria | 354 comments I am not dressing up but love going to haunted houses. I only dress up when going to my cities annual gay Halloween block party the Saturday before Halloween. I didn't plan ahead, so not going.

Reading wise I don't like full on horror but love suspense. At the same time, I hate a "funny" paranormal romance. I need my supernatural heroes and heroines to be a little scary. Give me Lothaire over Edward anyday.

Kim | 134 comments I love scary! The problem is that I've been reading scary books and watching scary movies my entire life and they no longer scare me. It's VERY rare for a movie to frighten me although I wish they would. One of the few that did was The Exorcist. I still cannot watch that one right before I go to sleep. lol

Halloween is my favorite holiday and it is heavily celebrated where I work so I will be dressing up. I am going to be Tippy Hedren from The Birds. I will likely stay in costume while I pass out candy.

That's a really creative costume, Kim.

I have enjoyed scary books since I was a kid. I prefer the old school horror, with more atmosphere than gore and guts. I don't like reading about serial killers and psychopathic humans. I like supernatural horror. I do like books to be quite scary. I can tolerate a very scary book compared to movies. Movies can be more scary and disturbing to me because they are more visual. I admit that I can be overscared.

I enjoy October because I like the spooky feel of the month, but by the end of the month, I'm ready to go back to normal, and tone down the spooky level. :)

My friend has a party every year. I haven't decided what I am going to do. I usually don't decide until too late and so my costumes aren't that great.

love the costume, Kim! lol

I have done some nifty costumes in the past but never anything scary. I won $100 for my caveman costume one year (many, many, many years ago). No one knew it was me. I walked hunched over and had a mask on.

Paganalexandria | 354 comments My favorite costume ever was when I got a latex mask of a dirty old man, great leisure wear from thrift store, and went around accosting all my friends as an unknown dirty old man. No one knew who I was for hours. It was so awesome.

Sharmila | 67 comments Halloween is amazing in New York! One year myself, friends and family got together as a group of living dead and did the whole dead scene. Even made some dead bodies to drag around with us! It was awesome!

Love that must if you guys had people guessing. That's the fun! Lol

Sharmila | 67 comments But I like scary and spooky book reads. Dean Koontz and Steven King ate pretty good. Edger Allen Poe is chilly. :.(

Emma ~ The Indecisive Reader ~ (emmatheindecisivereader) | 12 comments Halloween is not a big thing here, at all really! :(

I haven't really done scary/spooky books! Might give some a go?!?!

I have actually read a bunch of Edgar Allen Poe back in highschool. I liked it.
