Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Good morning to all!

We've decided to go with the theme of Christmas (of course) for December's read. Please only nominate Christmas-themed books of any genre.

The same guidelines apply as usual, which you can find under the Book of the Month Reading section.

Looking forward to seeing your nominations! They will be open until October 31.

Nominations as of October 23:
1. The Christmas Candle by Max Lucado
2. The Treasure of Christmas: A 3-in-1 Collection by Melody Carlson
3. The Sound of Sleigh Bells: A Romance from the Heart of Amish Country by Cindy Woodsmall
4. The Christmas Note by Donna VanLiere
5. Naomi's Christmas by Marta Perry
6. A Merry Little Christmas by Anita Higman
7. Remembering Christmas by Dan Walsh
8. Bright Christmas: An Amish Love Story by Susan Rohrer
9. Christmas Vows: $5.00 Extra by Lori Copeland
10. The Christmas Shoes by Donna VanLiere

I love this book The Christmas Candle by Max Lucado and read it every year at Christmas time. I would love to read this one as a group!

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Does it have to a book I've read for me to nominate it? I am asking this because I'm behind on my holiday reading.

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments I will nominate A Christmas Gift for Rose by Tricia Goyer because I really want to read it by the end of the year.

It doesn't have to be one you've read, but hopefully you want to read it or would make an effort to read it if you nominate it :)

This one just came out in September, which is below the 6 month range. Can you nominate another? Thanks!

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Ok. I will do that. I am surprised two people had nominated it in Fans of Amish Fiction i even though it's been out a month now.

message 11: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Does the book have to be the first in a series? I have noticed that a lot of the holiday books are not.

message 12: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments Can you change my nomination Naomi's Christmas by Marta Perry even though you've not yet done group reads for the other six? Thanks.

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Natalie wrote: "@Beth: Does the book have to be the first in a series? I have noticed that a lot of the holiday books are not."

I would say it's okay so long as it can be read as a "stand-alone"

message 14: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: I guess it can be read that way as long a you have some idea of what happened in the previous ones. I'm only saying this because there are some characters from the previous books in this book. Will you please add it next time you update the list? Thanks.

message 15: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Thanks for updating the nomination list. I hope my book wins so I can participate in the discussion with spending extra money to buy one of the other books.

message 16: by Annette (new)

Annette This is going to be hard choosing as they all sound great. I nominate "A Merry Little Christmas" - Anita Higman

My vote is the Christmas Note.

MB | 2 comments How about Bright Christmas: an Amish love story? It has some elements that could make for an interesting discussion.

Bright Christmas An Amish Love Story (Redeeming Romance Series) by Susan Rohrer

message 21: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Carissa, I'm so sorry, but I believe that is non-fiction, but even so, it hasn't been out six months or more as our guidelines state.

Could you nominate another?

(by the way, that one is on my wishlist, I love LCH. She is so refreshing)

Sarah (sarahe35) | 46 comments Christmas Vows $5.00 Extra by Lori Copeland

message 24: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments The December Group Read will be Remembering Christmas by Dan Walsh!

message 25: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Is this the only group read for next month or will it be in the same format as this month where there's a Main Group Read and a Book of the Month? Just curious.

Natalie- Remembering Christmas will be the only group read for December- we are trying to make things easy in December as the holidays are busy and we want to be honoring to our members and help them spend time with the special people in their lives :) .

message 28: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Ok. Thanks. Will you continue that format from January on, though?

message 29: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments No, as Cheryl said, it's just to make things easier for December & a way to honor how special of a time it is for members & their families.

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments Beth wrote: "The December Group Read will be Remembering Christmas by Dan Walsh!"

Read this when it first came out and it is is one of my favorite Christmas reads. Dan Walsh is an accomplished writer who writes wonderful, tender romance.

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: What day do you plan to post the nomination thread for January's Group Reads? Just curious so I know when to make a decision.

message 32: by Sara (new)

Sara | 75 comments Looks like a good choice.

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Natalie wrote: "@Beth: What day do you plan to post the nomination thread for January's Group Reads? Just curious so I know when to make a decision."

It will be mid-month like usually :)

message 34: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Do you mean that you plan to start January's nomination thread in the middle of this minth or is it next month? Just wanted to be sure.

message 35: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments It's always two months before, so January's nomination thread will be opened mid-Nov., then announced on Dec. 1, so there is the whole month of December to track down the book, read, etc before the discussion opens in January. In mid-Dec. we'll open the nominations thread for February, and so on.

message 36: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 437 comments @Beth: Ok. Thanks.

message 37: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (hadassah414) | 11 comments Ok , so December's read will be my first group read... Do we start Dec. 1st, or can we start now?

message 38: by Beth (last edited Nov 15, 2013 04:59PM) (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Stephanie, you can start reading anytime you'd like. The actual discussion thread will open on Dec. 1 :) we announce it the month before so that members have time to find it, etc by the time the discussion thread opens the first of the month.

Hope that helps! :)
