The Sims 3: Into the Future

I never played SIms before as I am too scared of spending too much time on it...but I might just have to make an exception with this one!
Ah crap. I shouldn't have watched that trailer. I don't need to have my life swallowed up by the Sims again. But that one I HAVE TO PLAY. Argh.

Anyone playing sims 3: Into the Future?
So the robots are called plumbots...not sure the reasoning. My first thought is plumbing but that doesnt make much sense.
Anyways, I design a sim that is handy, a genius, is a plumbot enthusiast and make her a plumbot scientist.
Her life goal is to bring sentience to plumbots...You have to start out by designing nanites and than building nanites you design. Than reverse engineer the nanites to get component parts you need to build trait chips...that you not only build but also have to be designed. I have cheated as far as getting money is concerned...been trying to max out my plumbot building skill. Anyone, else trying this out?

Is there actually time travel in this game? Or is this a game where you switch between controlling Sims in the present and the future? Make changes in the present and see the affects on the future world sort of thing?
The game starts in the present and a portal to the future opens and you can go into the future. You can take future tech back to the present or past but there is very little cause and affect between worlds...The time travel is simply cosmetic as sims is just a very large doll house game...
Ok, thanks Lincoln. I'll give this a miss as I cant anywhere afford my life to be taken over by the Sims, lol.
Looks like fun.
