Teresa (teresatheterrible) Hey everyone! This title is on the Kindle Lending Library for Amazon Prime members, just in case you might be interested in borrowing it rather than buying it. Thought I'd give you all a heads up! I can't wait to get this one started!!!

We might have to combine the separate section posts - if there are multiple topics for each buddy read, the Mods are going to be deleting them pretty frequently.

The separate topics are just for convenience DURING the buddy read. I see no reason they can't be combined a while after the buddy read is done.

Unfortunately, we can't combine the threads later - not without copying and pasting every single post, which we don't really have time for.

We'll think about the archiving thing, but that would mean that every BOTM and Buddy Read with multiple topics would end up in there, which isn't what we want. It also adds yet more work for the Mods. Although it might be something we end up eventually doing with Buddy Reads, since they aren't as likely to be read through by later forum members.

I'll leave this one as is, since it's already set up, but in future, just one thread until we've figured out a feasible alternative. It will most likely be deleted in our monthly sweep, so if you want to keep anything, you should probably copy and paste it.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Hmm,
Old BOTM and Buddy reads are useful.
Let's say its spring of 2014, I just join this group. I haven't participated in a BOTM or buddy Read but I might want too.
I can look at old BOTM and buddy reads to help me understand what they are.
Let's say that I am that same new member, and I'm looking to learn more about this group and its members. I can go to the old BOTM and Buddy reads to learn more information,
Maybe find out that I think more like (__) member and might want to become goodreads friends or ask them for book recommendations.
Maybe I'm that same member and I've just read a book that was either a BOTM or a buddy Read, I now want to see what the other group members thought of it.
And so on

It looks like we could create the discussion topics directly on the book's page on GoodReads, instead of here in the group and having them point to the book.

That might make more sense actually. Then, our general "Buddy Read" topic could just point to that topic.

For example:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Randy Harmelink | 2188 comments Can someone post a reply to my "Test" topic in the link above? I want to see if I get the normal email notification and pointed directly to the new message.

Randy Harmelink | 2188 comments Hmm. Must be a GoodReads error. The email notification worked fine, positioning me at the new message Teresa posted.

However, if I go to the Desolation web page and scroll down to the "Discuss this Book" section, it shows I have ALL NEW messages in every topic, even though I've read them all.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Once we get this all worked out, how do you guys feel about deleting the comments regarding where and how to host/post the buddy read?

I deleted my comment, guys. I also have NO problem whatsoever having all the 'orgizational' posts deleted. They'll just clog this thread til the end of time if they DON'T get deleted, and they're not useful to anyone but us. I would wait until the 1st or 2nd, though, just in case someone decides to jump in late...

Randy Harmelink | 2188 comments Tammy K. wrote: "The only flaw I see in doing the buddy read on the books page is that it will not help promote the zombie! Group."

I had put a standard header in each of the topics. We could add something like:

"This Buddy Read is sponsored by members the Zombies! group. If you're interested in zombies, come join us:"

...and then give the link.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Sounds good thanks for testing whether hosting a buddy read is possible on a book goodread page.

I've created the three discussion topics over on the book's web page and noted those web page links in the "BR request" topic here, so this topic can be deleted.

None of it is on the book, anyway. :)
