C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Hi everyone! I am life long, enthusiastic reader. These events took me to a new level and I can't believe the standing in which I've wound up! I joined with a pledge for 'Mount Ararat', 48, knowing I could easily do it. I like to finish what I start and was certain I'd get to the next peak too. My first link of activities is here. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

I did climb 'Mount Kilamanjaro', 60 easily and was excited to call it: "Carolyn's goal becomes a lower plateau". As I'd estimated, my promised level became a dot. Those lively discussions with our peers is here. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

What pleasantly surprised and pleased me, was passing 'Mount El Toro', 75! It was an imaginable goal but to have done it well within 2013 was greatly satisfying indeed. A tidy 300-word accompanied everybook. And at this level, I beat my whole Goodreads competition 3 months early! I set it at 72. Last year, I attained 10 fewer, in the nick of time. Have a look at my book list and cameraderie here. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I didn't guess that in October I would already be competing at the level of 'Mount Everest', 100!!!!! I am a winner whether or not I finish 100 novels and books. My pledged level has well be surpassed, thrice. It is exhilerating and fun for me, that I have raced up to the heavy hitters of this event! My reading has only been done at night; tending flowers, gardens, and our country yards by day. It makes me smile to think how much more my ingesting of material can grow. :-)

With my birthday three weeks hence, new colourful spines will brighten our home & outbuilding library. As always, I hope education broadens along with them. Fiction too is insightful about other horizons. Warmly, Carolyn.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) I really, really can't believe I'm here so early in the year. It's something I imagined I might attain if I squeezed reviews in, close to new year's eve.

I put every review for 'Mount To Be Read' here: http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2013/01...

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) I'm starting to feel that's the Australian word for champagne. I have it rarely and do enjoy the lightness! Perhaps November 18, I'll serve it for the augmentation of my next age. :)

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) This is a great time to roll out all of the material with which I am jogging along! I alphabetize so you can quickly scan items of interest. :) I don't care about finishing dates. What I like to see are publication years, so I provide those along with all book (or music and film) references. The paranormal and mystery are my favourites but there is a good dollop of other literature: multicultural fiction, history, children, even humourist essays! (That would be Dr. Paul Hiebert).

I knew I'd reach my starting mountain, 48 but I can't believe I sped so far past Mount Ararat!

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) There is a lot for me to be excited about! In three days I shall celebrate another year of life.
Completely by coincidence to my November birth, I am this month's spotlight at the Canadian book challenge blog!

If ever you wanted to explain why you cherish books but couldn't phrase it, feast your eyes.
My article discusses those sensations in detail and also the art of non-spoiler reviewing. http://www.bookmineset.com/2013/11/7-...

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) I do hope everyone enjoys my articles: about why I love real books and about how I like to compose reviews. I was featured by the Canadian book website! :) http://www.bookmineset.com/2013/11/7-...

The other surprise I have for our wonderful group, is that I decided to take the hosting plunge! Very soon I am going to invite you to help me launch 3 new reading challenges! I gave a preview here. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2013/11...

Happy birthday, Carolyn. Wishing you a great day ( with some reading included)

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) My dearest thanks to you both. :) I hope you like my current baby picture. To think tomorrow, it will be 41 years old.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Thank you Christine! :)
I hope people enjoy my baby picture. I believe it can gather comments. I think it's sweet. Dad's birthday soon follows mine so you see me at 11 days there.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) It's been a whirlwind week but a pleasure! Christine, your birthday is this week too. Tell us how you spent it. Happy birthday to you, my dear!

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Sometimes a novel isn't appealing but I own a series in advance and might as well keep reading. I'm glad to find the second Dicey Deere novel noticeably improved. I'm going to crunch my reading & reviewing.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) You know how some of us have a special affinity for re-using and collecting physical books, which we weren't always successful at explaining? I wrote an article at my blog that ought to make sense to both sides. Here it is. :) http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2013/12...

I think the occasions of other religions are already celebrated. I wish those well, including the solstice. Now it is the turn of Christmas to brighten our homes and raise excitement.
Merry Christmas and God bless everyone! Your reading friend, Carolyn.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Thank you Bev! Funny thing, friends want to see "The Hobbit II" Dec 30. Ron & I have a bunch of things to do so off to the city we go. Before then, I have to prepare several packages to take advantage before mail prices rise.

Thus last night I figured I'd hunker down and pretty much read two novels in a day, after house cleaning. What happens at 7:00PM but a neighbour out of nowhere asks me over for a visit and movie. Today I'm back at the lot of it: reading, reviews, using dial-up to plug them into 40 odd websites by new year's eve!

LOL, **now** you know why my challenges are running February to February. {chuckle} I'm nicely side-stepping gardening season too. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/etherea...

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Thank you Bev! You bet I'm going to immediately get cracking at 100, this very new year's eve afternoon. Then I'll update over 40 challenge posts and links galore. Any allowing catch-up in January are appreciated tremendously. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2013/01...

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Well, my new year's was so inundated filling in websites that close December 31. I had to be very creative, pause reading a while, and observe which ones closed at once. (Please, please we need some challenges to start and conclude at different months in the year). I'll be filling in the rest of the websites today. I do have a positive update for you and after breakfast, I'll post my final tally for my wonderful literature peers. :)

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) When one reads 100 books in a year, in about 42 challenges, links as many reviews as she can every few months; there's a backlog. Those updated recently have a few entries. Others have me typing a little while over eggnog. Now then, did you catch my message? :-) I'm exhausted but thrilled. The report I'm going to give is a wonderful way to wish my 2013 Mountain-reading peers a happy 2014!!!!!!!! Your Friend, Carolyn. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2013/11... Ready? Drum roll please....

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Thank you, Susan! It is beautiful up here. I found the champagne and lawnchair Christine left for me a while ago. :) Next, I have nothing but good feelings about 2014 and really believe I'll read even more therein. Funny thing: I'm drinking a glass of champagne in real life, right now!

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) I really am amazed about achieving 100 books in a year. It wasn't my goal at all but when I reached that mountain at a reasonable time in the year, I'm the sort of person who has to succeed at my aim. With much distraction, I did it!

Here's an article I wrote very recently, to explain to everyone who keep asking why books mean so much to me. Perhaps other paper book users will appreciate the ready-made answers. Love to all of you, Carolyn. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2013/12...
