I was browsing a bit over in another group when I came across this question:

Does Your Kindle Have a Name?

I never realized you could change the name of your Kindle devices, but it's apparently quite easy. On the Amazon website, go to Your Account --> Manage Your Kindle --> Manage Your Devices. Then you can click on each device and click "Edit" beside the name of the device to change its name.

I've never been one to anthropomorphize my machines, cars, computers, etc. But this one's got me. I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours?

message 3: by Paul (new)

Paul | 341 comments It does have a name, but only to distinguish from five other devices on our account. Like Paul's Kindle or Paul's iPad. Boring, I know. Nothing so cool as "Stephanie's Fire." I'll work on it.

But Amy gets the award for best vocabulary word of the week -- anthropomorphize. How often do we get to use that one in friendly conversation?

Ha. It's one of those words I like to get in at every chance I have (which is maybe once a year if I'm lucky). I even have a GoodReads bookshelf entitled "anthropomorphic". :P (geez, why can't Goodreads handle html links half the time?)

My Kindle is currently called Solstice and my phone is currently called Acacia.

Vickie | 63 comments I didn't know that, but now that I do, I plan to go name them all. It will be so much easier to get things to the right kindle if they're all identified by the user's name than the current Kindle 1, Kindle 2, and Kindle 3.

Works for both of us.

Alicja (darkwingduckie7) | 14 comments My laptop is Scorates, my desktop is Aristotle, so I just had to name my Kindle Plato. And my car is named Bucephalus. ;)

Tej, I'm pretty sure you can change names for Bill and Ted on Amazon. Just go to "Manage your Devices" and hit "Edit" for the appropriate ones. Have you tried that? I think you can change names on iTunes, too, for Apple products, but that probably wouldn't help for Kindle purposes.

Neville Mine is just called "Neville's Kindle" and my IPAD is called "Neville's IPAD" by default.

I will have to consider being a bit more inventive.

So, I was trying to explain to my folks that a kindle fire is an "all" device, with the original kindle's being strictly reading devices. To emphasize my point I named my first kindle Lincoln's Reading Machine

I got the new paper white for my birthday, and to distinguish it from my normal kindle, I named it The Lights that light the lights because I could now read in the dark. Also, I really do enjoy that most annoying song..

I-I didnt get the joke :( Kept trying to work it out. And then it hit me Pork Fry! He he...eh...no that cant be it. So I googled "por que-fi" and all I got was the Mexican restaurant wifi. Then I realised, oh "Fi" as in wifi, right right! He he, that's fun...no wait, I still dont get it :( . so I googled "Por que"...ah in English it means "because"...because Fi?!? what!? Right, I am going back to Pork Fry. No wait.

Hey John is that a Fringe reference? To distinguish the Walters they had Walter and Walternate...

Actually, I first used the name as a character in the role playing game "Top Secret," which was like D&D meets James Bond. That was long before "Fringe." If anything, they copied me.

message 21: by R. (new)

R. (trueroscoe) | 2 comments I named the first one Bradbury.

I think I'll give this one a more cinnamon-scented sobriquet...Maud'Dib perhaps, or Azhar Book.

Oh, Tej.
It's okay. Still like you just fine.

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 112 comments Not exactly. I should be more creative but it's currently parrotgirl's kindle. I should rename it sleep deprived medic's ereader, hence the reason I haven't been around much lately. As the holidays hit, I think the public is trying to kill us. Slowly, painfully, and with deliberately malice by waiting until after midnight to call on the hour every hour.

Ugh. No rest for the wicked.
