The Silk Code

Dr. Phil D' Amato returns from The Silk Code, winner of the Locus Award for Best First Science Fiction Novel of 1999, with another blend of biological science fiction and hard-boiled police-procedural mystery.
Memory itself is the suspect in The Consciousness Plague - more particularly, loss of memory, in slivers of time deducted from a growing number of individuals, which plays havoc with everything from the investigation of serial stranglings to candlelight dinners. D'Amato, NYPD forensic detective, investigates a spate of unusual cases and finds evidence of a bacteria-like organism that has lived in our brains since our origin as a species and may be responsible for our very consciousness.
A new antibiotic crosses the blood-brain barrier and inadvertently kills this essential bug. Phil himself falls victim to this memory hole, and must struggle to get the proper authorities to pay attention before everyone loses so much memory that they forget that they forgot in the first place.

In the first novella, THE VILLAIN is a member of the Enclave of the Villainy who goes outside the rules. Using his power for just the “party displays” practiced by the others was not enough. Forging his own path, specializing in Illusion, he violates not only the rules of his Enclave, but of society itself. Now, after years on the run, he must use his illusions, and all of his skill to defend himself against its power.
THE SECRET OF LIFE, THE UNIVERSE, AND EVERYTHING, a short-short that explains pretty much everything.
In the second novella, THE GOLDEN APPLE is a prize asteroid fought over by both Earth and its former colony, Mars. But it appears that the squabbling factions have crossed paths with the wrong man. After he loses everything to the war, he finds a drastic way to end it.

I would like to propose my first novel to be published online: Jovian Uprising - 2315
Jovian Uprising is a pure space opera sci-fi novel about young Tina Forster inheriting from her uncle the giant cargo ship KOSTROMA, then living through an attack by pirates and fighting a war on the side of Spacers trying to win independence from an abusive Earth government. It is free online on Goodreads.com, like the rest of my ebook novels.

When mysterious billionaire industrialist Morgan Hunter's son Bryant disappears from his
megayacht Sirene under bizarre circumstances, the businessman organizes a search for the boy, spearheaded by ambitious journalist Kristin Ewell.
Joined by marine biologist Ike Neumann, physicist Stephen Minter, and diver Duke Duquesne, the searchers embark on what is supposed to be a routine exploration of the ocean off Baja California,
seeking the answer to Bryant's disappearance.
But when incredible lights start to appear at night, and the truth behind Morgan Hunter's dangerous past is revealed, the search becomes anything but routine.
Was Bryant's disappearance the only reason for the search? Who--or what--is causing those lights and the dazzling daylight displays? Who is Morgan Hunter, really?
As the search grows ever more eerie and menacing, Kris, Ike, and the others realize there is much more beneath the waves than they ever imagined.
