Smallo | 28 comments Just discovered movie is based on graphic novel. Read first few pages of latter and will buy. Listened to negative review of former especially male perspective. Haven't seen film so can't comment but maybe animated version with author involvement would be better like Persepolis.

Diego Moreno (elgueromoreno) | 9 comments Hi
I saw the movie and I loved it, later read the graphic novel. I loved more the GN. I really enjoyed the drawings and liked more the the ending.

Ije the Devourer of Books I read the graphic novel and I thought it was a beautiful but sad story. I did like the art and i thought it came across as haunting and very emotional in the way it drew me into the story. I have been told that the film is not as sad as the book so I might watch it.

Danielle (iamhorriblylimited) I absolutely loved this graphic novel. I was crying by the end of it. It is such a beautiful story that is portrayed perfectly. I was sucked in as soon as I started reading it. I really fell in love with the characters and their story. This graphic novel is so evocative and will be very relevant to any LGBTQ teen/adult who isn't sure, who is sure, and for anyone looking for an amazing love story.

Elizabeth (elizabethlk) I read this pretty recently. The art was beautiful and the story itself was so very sad--but no less beautiful. I have never seen the film and intend to watch it now that I've read the graphic novel.

I loved this story, so intense it leaves your heart like a carcass hanging by a hook.
I read someone found too many "stereotypes of the coming out process" in it, but I'd rather speak about "archetypes of the coming of age journey" instead. I didn't appreciate a few little things, but I highly recommend it (the book and the movie as well), for anyone who grew up without knowing how to do it, which means anyone no matter who.

Joshie (jgabcdefg) Hi, I think I'm one of the few people here who didn't like the movie because the sex scene was not the sensual/passionate kind that I would've liked. I have also read somewhere that the author disliked this part of the film because it didn't do justice with how beautiful the graphic novel is. I have not read the graphic novel yet though. I should probably do it pretty soon since it seemed many people fell in love with it.

Will it be ok if I could have it too? Haha. Thank you very much!
