When party girl Violet Lee stumbles upon the charming and wicked vampire Kaspar Varn, she embarks on a dangerous adventure through London’s darkest streets and poshest neighborhoods. As their attraction isundeniable, the pair succumb to their desires, but at what cost?

The Dark Heroine is our group READER PICK for the month of November. It is rated suitable for all readers, including Young Adults.

Let us know what you think in the thread below!

Now this one appears to be YA/A crossover? I hope to find time to dive into it before the end of the month, but if not, be sure to comment so I know if it would be suitable for my 'tween' daughter. She's a voracious reader.

Mandy (mandykelly) was actually thinking about this the other day, for me the young adult thing is more than just 'does it have sex scenes?' (although obviously MEGA important for that audience) our anti hero (so far) is a bit of a bully and a brute, I am not finished the book yet so don't know if it will end with him as our leading man but the character isn't the type of guy I would want my daughter to think she should be attracted to. I hated the 50 shades books for the same reason - I guess the roughness he has had with our heroine which makes me feel that way is summed up in this quote " In a blur he had launched himself across the room. He collided with my side to take me with him and I was sent rolling across the bed, coming to a halt when my head hit the bedside cabinet. I let out a scream as he landed on top of me, pinning me to the bed. I winced through gritted teeth as the corner of the cabinet dug into my spine. .......pinning my hands above my head. He began to pull my shirt up and I heard squeals of protest from Charity, which merged with the protests of the mattress as I tried to fight free. But then he was gone.... " have paraphrased a bit but the general gist of this scene to me is that he wants to show her if he wanted to rape her he could. Maybe I am oversensitive but to me these aren't sparkly young adult vampires they are damaged men. perhaps I will feel differently once I have finished the book but so far it isn't one I would allow a young teen to read

E.M. Reders (emreders) | 44 comments 15 + i would say is the youngest the reader should be but would recommend checking out yourself first, every parent has different views on what they think their child should be exposed to (i would keep my kids under lock and key if i could, lol). The vampires in this book are darker than most of the YA vampires we have been introduced to over the past few years, and there is some violence and mature scenes that are definitely not suitable for the young mind.

Gabby | 906 comments Of course everyone has a different opinion on topics like this like there may be some 14 year olds that are more mature than others and so on. So it really depends on the individual that's reading it.

The gist I seem to get from the previous comments (and THANK YOU for commenting as I've been incredibly bogged down with NaNoWriMo the entire month of November) is NO WAY for my 'tween/teen' to read this book. I dislike any book which advocates for submission to a male in any manner as being a desirable state for a young woman.
