That could work. Myself, I just go to a pub and get drunk. I may or may not have a successful writing evening, but I'm guaranteed to have a successful drinking evening.

I listened to Rachel Aaron when she was on a podcast, and then picked up the ebook (2K to 10K). I've been using some of her suggestions, including tracking writing productivity/time, and in outlining more.

This year has been a success in increasing my production rate, for sure. I've had the most success when I'm able to summon a high degree of focus, shutting out the whole world, and knowing enough of what's coming ahead to not have to stop and plot as I go.

You know, at first I thought she was nuts, but I too have noticed that when I use elements of these practices (keeping track of my time, planning out at least the beginning of a scene before I sit down to write it, writing for longer stretches of time, etc.) I do notice an increase in my writing output. Clearly, I'm not a 10k a day person. I mean, I work two jobs, but she does have some really good points.

Also: give your kid to someone else to raise! V. important!
