Evan (sampsom) | 578 comments Not really knowing much about the U.S medical system apart from what I have picked up from Greys anatomy and Scrubs, and seeing that it is mostly done through insurance. I think Obamacare is good, it makes insurance more affordable to certain people and in some cases pays for it. This I see as good, as it gives more of an equal chance of gaining healthcare. It is similar to the NHS in the U.K which allows 'free' health care, (paid throuh taxes).

Emily | 45 comments Some people are concerned that all of the new people with health care will flood the already crowded medical care system. The country already has a shortage of doctors and nurses, and patients must be very patient when waiting for appointments scheduled months in advance. People are also worried that new professionals will be discouraged from entering the medical field by new, complicated insurance paperwork that comes with Obamacare.

One main concern of mine is losing current health insurance policies. Countless times, the president promised that anyone who wanted to keep their health care plan would be able to keep it. This turned out to be totally wrong. My uncle thinks this is a worse lie than what drove Nixon to resign. My mom wants an apology from Obama. She found out that she cannot keep our health care plan because it does not meet the requirements set by the Affordable Care Act. We have to spend about $173 more per month. This adds up to $1,560 a year. Why is the government able to force us as well as 16% of the population to spend more on private insurance?

Another major concern of mine is that every employer has to provide health care coverage that includes birth control and abortion. This means that all Catholic schools, colleges, hospitals, and charities are being forced to choose between ignoring their faith and remaining open or staying true to their faith and shutting down. Twenty percent of the nation regardless of faith receives medical care from Catholic hospitals. Apart from the government, Catholic charities are the largest providers of aid for the poor. Many people are going to lose medical care, aid, and also jobs. How is this constitutional? How does this not contradict freedom of religion?

Sure, there might be good parts of the law, but it needed to be refined and freed of the bad requirements before it was passed.

Right. The problem is that people don't have health insurance because they can't afford it. The answer to "I can't afford this as well as food and rent." shouldn't be "Yeah? Well now you have to.".
