The time has come to nominate genres for next month.

Any nominations are welcome but I would ask that anyone proposing (and preferably seconding) a genre has at least one independent book in that genre in mind. Any genre must be seconded to be included on the poll.

In addition, a reminder that a genre (or book, subsequently) that wins because of brand new members who have done nothing but join and vote or 'sleeper' members who are similar but have been around a little longer may be disqualified.

If we get a category that has but a single book nominated then obviously we'll go with that. If we get more than one we'll have a vote.

The poll will begin on the 25th of this month.

The poll for the book selection, if there is one, will occur after the Fantasy Book of the Month vote.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 60 comments I second Zombies! (Although I am not sure if I'll have time do participate in this group reading discussion. I've been wanting to, but I end up with too many books in queue. I'm hoping to be clear in December, but if not then I'll cross my fingers for January...)

I confess I haven't actually got a book in mind. I'm counting on Alexandra to pop along with some ideas...

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 60 comments I have a lot of Indie Zombie Books (wow, that's a mouthful!)that I haven't read yet on my Ipad. Anyone of them would be great. Actually, believe it or not, I only ever read 2 or maybe 3 zombie books in my life so the chances that someone chooses one that I haven't read are very good. :P

Steph, lucky for you GG has some in mind, or I'd have to beat you with the Pointy Stick of Doom.

So, we've got:
Zombies

Any others in mind?

Incidentally, non-typical/epic fantasy can also slot into this vote, so if you've got urban fantasy or historical fantasy or suchlike you can propose that genre. Epic fantasy belongs in the Fantasy Book of the Month category.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments I was going to say zombies but got out ninja'd
I will say fairy-tale retelling.

message 8: by Mia (new)

Mia Darien (mia_darien) | 425 comments I'll second fairy-tale retelling. :)

message 9: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments I wonder if we could do fairy tale retelling with zombies, that would cover both.

message 10: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 60 comments What's fairy tale retelling? Sorry not familiar with that.

message 11: by Mia (last edited Nov 12, 2013 02:36PM) (new)

Mia Darien (mia_darien) | 425 comments Any story that takes a classic fairy tale and tells it in a new way. Robin McKinley is pretty known for that, doing Beauty & the Beast twice, in fact: "Beauty" and "Rose Daughter."

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments Cinder I was thinking of. Although there are some more....adult ones...

That wouldn't stop a zombie.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments Unless you poked it in the head, that's the weak spot - so say all the movies!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

oh yes, Fairy Tale retelling!

Thaddeus White | 631 comments Mod
On the list:

Fairy tale-retelling

And nice to meet you, Ben.

Remember, kids, we've got a few more days to go so if you want something added to the list do mention it.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments Zombies sitting around telling fairy tales?

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

hmm...zombie lore...do zombie's create lore...I almost think there needs to be a book done like that...

Book of the Dead? If a zombie fairy-tale is anything like Corpse Bride then I'm all for it. One of my favourite films!

message 21: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments Lol that is an idea!

message 22: by B.C. (new)

B.C. Brown (bcbrownbooks) | 16 comments Definitely zombies!

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I wouldn't have thought of Corpse Bride...I guess that would be zombie fairy tale :)

message 24: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments True. Or nightmare before Christmas maybe.

message 25: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Rampton (goodreadscomdg_rampton) | 1 comments Can I put in a good word for the un-undead...specifically those from the eloquent and romantic Regency period? Yes, I know in real-life they're dead, but not in story-line :)

message 26: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments So historical? We had that recently but I guess it could be more specific?

I will second Regency

message 27: by Thaddeus (new)

Thaddeus White | 631 comments Mod
Almost forgot about this!

*slaps self*

So:
Zombies
Fairy tale-retelling
Regency

The poll is up! Get voting, or you may miss out on your preferred re-telling of a zombie regency romance:

message 29: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments Pride and Prejudice and zombies then?

message 30: by Thaddeus (new)

Thaddeus White | 631 comments Mod
Voting ends on 1 December, so if you're sitting on the fence, please do remove the splinters from your posterior and vote to help us pick one way or the other.

message 31: by Steve (new)

Steve Thomas | 198 comments Maybe this is the wrong thread, but are we doing a December Fantasy read?

message 32: by Thaddeus (new)

Thaddeus White | 631 comments Mod
Although I don't run that one, I think there will be one. Not certain, though.

message 33: by Thaddeus (new)

Thaddeus White | 631 comments Mod
Ok, that was a dead heat. I've removed the third option and will run it as a tie-breaker. If it's a dead heat again I'll just toss a coin. So, please do vote again:

Poll 2: Poll Harder - https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/9...

message 34: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments Or do one this month and the other next month?

message 35: by Thaddeus (new)

Thaddeus White | 631 comments Mod
Darrr. That would've been a good idea. If there's another two-way tie I'll see about doing that in the future.

message 36: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1013 comments Well just pick whatever wins the poll for this month and put the other for Jan, the discussions tend to run over a bit anyway.
