Kim's pick for December 2013, Christopher Moore's Fool, relates heavily to Shakespeare's King Lear. Some of us have not read King Lear, or at least haven't read it lately, and will be reading it as a companion to our pick of the month. If you're jumping on this one with us, here is where you can discuss that with the rest of us ERs as you go!

I've only read the intro to King Lear and I'm already super intrigued for this one and Fool. Anyone else start yet?

I started King Lear and everyone is so frustrating except the fool. I hope to start Fool this week too

Yup, I feel that way too. I'm halfway through the third act now, and I'm kind of floored. Those chicks wasted no time in turning absolutely horrible after they received their inheritance. And since there seems to be a lot of play still left, I have a feeling it's going to still be worse.

Kim (kimguernsey) | 150 comments my original plan was to read each scene in original text then in translated english... its taking longer than i expected. i might just do translated english so i can get to Fool already.

That makes sense. My book had three different versions of the play and I just kind of picked one, because I'm really just trying to get a feel for the story before I read Fool.

I just finished today and it is really dark. Some parts are just disturbing. I'm really curious how Fool is going to handle all this darkness.

So far it's hilarious. I'm not sure if I can finish both so I'm focusing on Fool.

Yeah, King Lear was surprisingly long for a play. Starting on Fool ASAP!
