Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments What wondering what everyone is reading in order to finish up both the year, and their reading goals.

message 2: by Denzel (new)

Denzel Brooks | 18 comments I don't really have a reading goal, but I am reading Threads That Bind. So far it's an interesting read.

message 3: by Ben (new)

Ben (bennewton_1) I've finished my reading goal for the year already. Currently working my way through David Gunn's Death's Head series. Am into Maximum Offence at the moment. Good trashy military SF fun.

message 4: by Tamahome (new)

Tamahome | 7215 comments Neal Asher has quite a review of the first book in that series: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 5: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) Finishing up Dune. Reading the club pick whenever I get it from the library.

message 6: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) | 116 comments I'm still reading books that I started in November- Zoo City, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, The Lightning Thief (audio), and The Republic of Thieves. My semester is finishing up so I'll have more time to read. I have a lot of books I want to read before the end of the year, so I'm motivated!

message 7: by Don (new)

Don McDonald (dmmacs) | 114 comments Behind on Ancillary Justice due to reading Happy Hour in Hell and just started Dogfight: How Apple and Google Went to War and Started a Revolution and then on to A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent. Should get me to my reading goal before the end of the year.

That is such a spot on review.

message 9: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments Sort of reading Midnight Tides but my dislike for the book so far is stalling me significantly. Combined with having no motivation since I reached my goal and getting new video games means it will likely take me 3 more weeks.

message 10: by Nadine (new)

Nadine | 10 comments I'm currently reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Then I'll move onto Eldest by Christopher Paolini and try finish up his Inheritance series.

message 11: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 96 comments I just finished American Gods I am planning on starting either Elantris or Promise of Blood

message 12: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 588 comments I finished Control Point just as the month was ending and snagged The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms from the ebook library. Putting it on hold to tackle the club pick though-which so far is wonderful.

message 13: by Dharmakirti (last edited Dec 02, 2013 06:30PM) (new)

Dharmakirti | 942 comments I just started God Decays which, the subtitle informs me, is a zombie novel. It is the debut novel by a blogger/philosopher Benjamin Cain (whose blog, Rants Within the Undead God, is well worth checking out).

The blurb:
"Howard Rhodes, an NSA cryptanalyst, engineered the zombie apocalypse. So said the President of the United States in his shocking final address to the nation, which served as the American epitaph. Four years later, the old world is in ruins and is stalked by the living dead. Many survivors keep journals to record their travails in the hope that their lives still matter. There’s Jenna, a sardonic loner who is forced to care for others; Douglas, a young boy who wants to see the world outside his bomb shelter and make his dead mother proud; an old vagabond who has made his peace with the harsh truths he learned living in the margins of society; Thaddeus, a family man who will nevertheless do anything to see what comes after humanity; Hernando, who sees the dark humor in the new world; and Eric, Hernando’s mentally ill neighbor in Richmond, VA, who yearns for an adventure to shake up his routine and who just might know where to find the world’s most profound secret, hidden in the bowels of NSA headquarters, a secret from another star, the secret of why the world ended…of why God decays."

I've also recently started The Man from Primrose Lane and I'm still working on The Witching Hour and Fallen Dragon.

David(LA,CA) (davidscharf) | 327 comments Finished up A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent and Beyond Dinocalypse over the weekend.

Started up on Diaries of a Dwarven Rifleman last night. And will start listening to an audiobook of Dracula that's narrated in part by Tim Curry at some point today.

message 15: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 2433 comments Finished James Enge's This Crooked Way and went immediately into The Wolf Age. Great stuff!

message 16: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Swerbensky | 75 comments I'm still not done with Assassin's Quest, it's been slow going. I'm about 75% done. I'm liking it a lot actually. I just don't seem to have the time to read as much as I want. It's those holidays!

message 17: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandaquotidianbooks) | 50 comments I'll be rereading some comics for my private book club: Y the Last Man and The Unwritten, volumes 1. I need to catch up on Ancillary Justice and finish A Natural History of Dragons. I'm also going to reread this month's Vaginal Fantasy pick, Guilty Pleasures. I'm so excited for them all!!

message 18: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Swerbensky | 75 comments So I finished Assassin's Quest. I couldn't decide what to read next (too many good choices on my to-read list). So I decided it was time for me to go back to a good standby and reach for a Dresden. I'll be starting Summer Knight today.

message 19: by Dharmakirti (new)

Taking a break from fiction and reading The Swerve: How the World Became Modern. Facinating story of a book lover and how that influnced history.

I should read something for Christmas. This summer I read How John Norton the Trapper Kept His Christmas. Now I wish I had saved it until now.

I love Fallen Dragon so much. I read it when I was about 16 and connected with it like crazy, so much that I'm scared to reread it in case I don't enjoy it as much.

Jeff Namadan (jnamadan) | 218 comments Just started reading A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent & I'm hooked. Didn't expect it from some of the negative talk on it, but that's why we need to make our own decisions. :) Still chugging thru Magic Rises audiobook

I'm getting my copy from the library today and I'm very exited about it. Totally agree with people having to make their own decisions ;)

I liked the three that came before Summer Knight, but I agree, this one is by far the best in the series so far.

message 32: by Justin (new)

Justin Alexander | 4 comments Just finished Armageddon's Children never read anything by Terry Brooks before, but was able to jump straight into this one. A post-apocalyptic/Fantasy novel, it was a fantastic read and the start of a good saga i think.

message 45: by Joanna Chaplin (new)

Joanna Chaplin | 1175 comments I recently finished A Stranger in Olondria by Sofia Samatar. Snuck into the plot are all these little insights about books and how they affect people. I really think that anyone who reads fiction for pleasure would get something out of it.

I'm currently reading, and enjoying, Fallen Dragon. So far, my only problem with the book is that I don't like the way Mr. Hamilton writes sex scenes, to me they read too much like wish fulfillment...a letter to Penthouse Forum. Fairly minor criticism though.

The corporatist future he depicts is a future I find to be more than a little terrifying.

I especially liked the way he avoided black-and-white, good guy, bad guy over-simplifications.
