Fantasy Book Club discussion

The end of the year is almost here, what is your plan/way to wrap up for the year in terms of finishing up your reading goals for the year.

I'd like to finish off the Dark Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. I'd also like to polish off some books on Celtic mythology and business management (an odd list, to be sure).

I'm reading Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson... not sure yet which book to end the year with...

I want to finish up my reread of The Hobbit before the next movie comes out, but I don't know after that. I'm not good at planning.

I have a LOT of books I want to read this month, but first I need to finish off the books I started in November. Zoo City, The Republic of Thieves, The Lightning Thief (audio), and Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking.

My New Year's resolution is to read more fantasy. Rereading old favorites. Finishing up series I never did. And reading new stuff that I missed. So I'll be starting early. First up in December is my reread of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. I'm planning to read The Silmarillion too. First time though, I'll have to see if I can get through it.

Rereading Tanya Huff's :Smoke and . . ." trilogy

Finally found a copy of Poul Anderson's, "The King of Ys." Hope to get a good start on it this month.

Poul Anderson is one of my favorite authors. One of many. But still. Love him. :)

Currently reading "Madness" by McGrath, and would like to re-read the Sundering duology by Jacqueline Carey to wrap up the year :)

I need to finish the spy book I'm stuck on. Then the Brent Weeks trilogy, that contains book of the month. Something with a Christmas theme, it's tradition. Next year I intend to read more Sanderson.

Besides The Hobbit, I want to finish rereading A Series of Unfortunate Events. I still have 7 books to go but I can usually finish one of them in 24 hours (or less). That's about the extent of my goal. I'll get more reading than that in, but nothing planned.

Finished James Enge's This Crooked Way and went immediately into The Wolf Age. Great stuff!

I'm reading Into the Dark Lands. Not liking it but am going to push through to finish it.

I'd like to read more on the history of Japan prior to the modern age. I also want to take another read through The Silmarillion.

I gave up on Into the Dark Lands. Got 50% in and still had no idea what was going on.
Reading Warbreaker before I continue with LotR.

Hubbys bought me Casino Royale for Xmas and I would like to read a chick lit girlie xmas book. Just one for christmas. Then it is back to the fantasy stuff.

Right now I'm reading In the Days of Humans on the 4th chapter now but it's a good read.

Finished James Enge's The Wolf Age and started Ari Marmell's Lost Covenant.

I LOVE Warbreaker! Probably one of my Sanderson favorites - right up there with Elantris. Mistborn was good but I liked the others better

Just finished a couple LKH shorts and re-reading the first part of Ring of Change - Alizant on my Kindle

Finished my reread of The Hobbit, so that's one 2013 goal down. I'm currently rereading A Hero for Wondla, and I've started book 10 of A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Slippery Slope. I'm still planning to reread all 13 of them before year's end.

Finished The Magicians. I'm not sure I "liked" it but I did like it enough to start The Magician King next.

Took a break from Fantasy and read some historical fiction, but now I'm going back to fantasy and starting the Chathrand series with The Red Wolf Conspiracy

I am reading Sisters of the Raven by Barbara Hambly and the first in a series, as well as Raven's Ladder , the third and last volume in the Aurelia's Thread trilogy. I just got started on both of them, and am really enjoying them.

Except for the audio book I've finished all the books I had left from November. I also read The Invisible Man over the weekend. Now I'm reading The Valley of Fear.

I completed my goal of reading 150 books this year a couple of days ago, which is nice. I'm currently reading a favourite author, The Bards of Bone Plain by Patricia McKillip. First read and it's gorgeous so far. I started reading her this year and I've been completely blown away. I don't understand why she isn't more well-known even amongst fantasy enthusiasts.

Hi Ruby, Patricia is well known especially to us old timers. I also think she is great.

Just finished an old classic Parnassus on Wheels - an irresistibly charming novella, a tribute to all booksellers. I think this book should be a mandatory read for any book lover. I found this awesome book about stained glass at a local market. I've always loved the architecture of old churches and cathedrals and stained glass is a big part of that.

I think it's this book: A Thousand Years Of Stained Glass.

I read the first book in the omnibus The Legend of Eli Monpress and found it very entertaining. I'm switching to Stephen King's Doctor Sleep but once I finish that I'll be back for more of Rachel Aaron's book.

Finished A Hero for Wondla and The Slippery Slope in the past few days, now rereading The Grim Grotto.

After finishing His Majesty's Dragon and Poison Study, I'm now on The Thousand Names.
Next in line will be The Black Lung Captain

@Carrie: Any first impressions? I have this on my radar as well and might be getting to it sometime next year.

@Gwen: Getting ideas here should be easy. A good way to start is looking through the shelves of the group and of some of the members for inspiration.
Making friends for recommendations and seeing what they're adding is also helpful and will soon lead to an insanely huge tbr-pile. :)

Mpauli, it's interesting, for lack of a better word to describe what I've read so far. I'm only starting to get to the meat of the story I believe. Like the meat is on my plate just need to stab it with my fork if that helps any.

@Gwen welcome to Goodreads the most addictive page on the internet for a bookworm. Hope you enjoy your stay and I know you will find plenty of books, heck I'm adding books everyday to my shelf. Always something new to discover here.

That sounds promising. Hopefully the meat is tasty, when you get to it and not some alchemical concoction that only looks like meat.^^

Haha yes that would be rather disappointing and sadly has happened one to many times.

Had to travel for work which meant many hours on planes & at airports over the past couple of days. On the plus side, that meant I finished Lost Covenant, read Untold by Sarah Rees Brennan pretty much in one sitting, and am now most of the way through Seven Kings by John R. Fultz. All three have been excellent!

Decided to read my first Terry Brooks. Reading First King of Shannara. Okay. Yes. I can see a heavy Tolkien influence here. Even in just the first chapter. But I like Tolkien. And I kinda like it so far.

I'm reading Timeless, the final book in the Parasol Protectorate series. It's so good!

And finished Seven Kingsand will conclude the series with Seven Sorcerers, both by John R. Fultz.

I'm getting ready to read The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes. Just picked it up for $2.99. I'm into Time Travel.

I noticed something this morning when I was on my Android smartphone. There is no option to add a GoodReads link from within the GoodReads app.

So, warning to future posters, you'll need to use a real computer or the desktop version of GoodReads via your smartphone browser to post links to books.

Someday perhaps that app will get updated.

I'm aware that is a problem. Apparently it's also true on tablets. However, it's still possible to find the book page and copy and paste the link.
