Wild Things: YA Grown-Up discussion

Happy New Year everyone! 2013 is almost over and Reading Challenge 18 will be going out with it! Let's start discussing what we'd like to see in Reading Challenge #19!

Any thoughts or ideas?

What about a challenge where people read and comment on previous group reads that you haven't already read? And once you do that, you can read previous nominees and add them to the genre threads?

I like that idea Jennifer. There's a lot of good books I didn't get to. I think I may be able to be in charge of this one now that things are settling down with the CYBILs panel I'm on and I'll have some more free time in January hopefully.

So, 1 point for reading the book and 5 points for commenting maybe?

Then maybe the same for nominees only creating a new topic or reviving an old one in the boards...

That sounds like fun! There are always so many good books that we nominate each month that I can never keep up with.

And I especially like the reviving of old threads :)

Here's what I have so far...

1. The Challenge begins at 12:00 A.M. local time on 1 January 2014 and ends at 11:59 P.M. local time on 31 March 2014; for a book to count for the challenge, it cannot be more than 1/2 read before 12:00 AM on 1 January 2014.
2. This Challenge is just for fun, so make sure you enjoy yourself and all the books you will be reading!
3. All books must be classified as Young Adult or Juvenile Fiction. If you local library classifies the book you chose as juvenile-young adult, then the book may be included.
4. All books must be at least 100 pages long to count for any of the tasks.
5. Audio books and electronic books (unabridged), such as Kindle, all count for this Challenge. Page counts will be according to the Goodreads page count.
6. When reporting completion of tasks, please link the title and author if possible. Also include the number of pages for the first edition listed on Goodreads (as was done in the first challenge). The point-count Leaderboard will be updated as often as I am able or as necessary. The leaderboard will list participants in alphabetical order. I will "bold" both the point leader and the page leader. If you find discrepancies in the point totals, please notify me. If you change a book to a different task, please notify me.

Hyperlinking the books through the "add book/author" feature is greatly appreciated.

Earn 5 points for finishing current group reads during the month they are being read. Earn 5 points for contributing to the discussion.


Earn 2 points for each book read that was a previous group read. Earn 5 points for contributing to the discussion.

Earn 1 point for each book read that was previously nominated as a group read, but did not win that month. Earn 5 points for contributing to the discussion or starting a new discussion in the genre boards.

Agreed, this would be a good challenge to allow for rereads. Maybe opinions will be swayed by discussing the books :)

Still on a book award committee so probably cannot take part, but soon I'll be back on the horse (although having a baby may change my plans :D.)

Do monthly challenges count towards the challenge in any way?
