I usually have an ebook active for when I'm at work or traveling, along with an audiobook I'll listen to when driving or working mindless tasks.

I recently got around to reading The Lightning Thief the other day. It was ok - but I got irritated with how stupid everyone was.

I'm also nominally reading The Peerless Four, which is a litfic book for review about 4 of the first female Olympic athletes in 1928. So far, I am not impressed.
I'm going to be starting Warbreaker soon though, for SF&F.

LOVE! *sigh*

Looks like the movie changed a lot - but, the "dyslexic 'cause your brain is hardwired for Greek" thing is definitely one of the WTF moments from the book.

SEriously???
*facepalm*
I read a book where the heroine had asthma and used her rescue inhaler multiple times a day - especially when startled. But the hero could stop her from having an asthma attack. Because...nerves/
I wanted to strangle the author - my husband has asthma and if you are using your rescue inhaler like that...something is medically wrong. It's not nerves.

Looks good but a little scary and sad.

My reading funks have happened more often and for longer periods of time this year.

I feel your pain. :(
I've had a bad year for reading funks, as well.
I'm currently reading Shadows of the Pomegranate Tree after seeing it mentioned in another group. It's a period of history that really interests me and it's a pleasure to see it explored from the Islamic side. I initially had some issues with the telling instead of showing, but I've grown used to it as a stylistic choice -- it's quite fitting for a family saga that so much of the context is unveiled through the stories that family members tell each other of previous generations.
I'm hoping I'll finish it this afternoon, but the DVDs I got for my birthday are calling to me.

That sounds cool.

I just finished Crossed which was ridiculous so review pending.
I started Full Dark, No Stars on audio and I love it. The reader sounds like Jeff Bridges and it's great.
I'm actually reading A Storm of Swords.
Due to the season I'm going to be starting Go Home Santa, You're Drunk soon.

Yes it is (on all counts)! I was quite pleasantly surprised when I read it.
Listopia: Novels mentioned in Among Others by Jo Walton

Personally, I loved it.

PS - is there any way for me to link book names from my iPad or do I need to be on a real computer for that?

I just finished The Invisible Man this morning. I liked it a lot more than The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine. Still deciding what my next book will be.

I don't think The Magicians was poking fun at fantasy so much as it was an examination of the futility of escapism. Most of us, at some point in our lives, will probably feel that life could be perfect if we could only start over in a new land. When we're children, it might be Narnia or Oz; when we're adults, we might call it Australia or Scotland or France, but it's not really any of those countries, it's an idealised version of them that's just as much a fantasy as is the Narnia we wanted to escape to when we were eight.
The Magicians is what happens when you get that escape, when you get to move to your perfect fantasy land and have magical powers and supposedly leave all your troubles behind, only to discover that wherever you go, there you are.
I think it's a theme that is explored even better in the sequel actually, so anyone who's read The Magicians and is on the fence about The Magician King, I heartily recommend it. :)

*Like*
I wasn't sure I was going to continue or not until I finished the book. I had to see what happened next. But I did think the (very) end was something of a... well a cheat. And it didn't fit the rest of the book, in my opinion. But I did like it. Even Quentin. And I'm enjoying the sequel. It has a sloth - how could you not like a book with a sloth?

I love, love, love, love, love The Dresden Files!! It gets better with every book!

I'm so jealous you get to read Dresden books for the first time! I love that series so much!

And I hated every single character.
I certainly didn't get anything like T's observations out of what I read - but I didn't finish, so... not surprising. I just knew that I hated it enough to want to scrub toilets instead of reading it. LOL
