Year Long Nora Roberts Read-A-Thon

I'm working on a plan for the books I want to read, but anything you read, just come on and post and chat about it. I've done this with Jayne Anne Krentz as well, and it seemed to work pretty well.

Vision in White
Bed of Roses
Savor the Moment
Happy Ever After
The Next Always - 03/23-26/14 ★★★★
The Last Boyfriend - 06/23/14 ★★★★
The Perfect Hope - 07/24/14 ★★★★★
Dark Witch 02/07-08/14 ★★★★
Shadow Spell 06/28/14 ★★★★
Blood Magick 10/30-31/14 ★★★★
The Witness - 04/14-16/14 ★★
Chasing Fire
Whiskey Beach - 09/26-27/14 ★★★★

I also have no problem reading books with similar themes if they are ones that I enjoy. I must say the Sign of Seven is darker in tone that Nora's usual fare but I liked that.

Here's my list:
✔ January: The Return of Rafe MacKade - 4 Stars
✔ February: Whiskey Beach - 3 Stars
✔ March: Dark Witch - 3 Stars
April: The Pride of Jared MacKade
May: Shadow Spell
✔ June: The Collector - 4 Stars
✔ July: Montana Sky - 4 Stars
August: The Heart of Devin MacKade
September: Hidden Riches
October: The Fall of Shane MacKade
November: True Betrayals
December: Blood Magick

Some of us are posting our lists so we have an idea of what we want to read. Pretty easy.

I'm reading

I only managed one book this month, I'm hoping for more in February.

The McKade Brothers is a series I have marked down to read.

Might re-evaluate that decision this year.

The few NR movies (mostly on Lifetime or Hallmark) that I've watched have not been well done. So I ignore that factor.

This is one of her older series and was recommended to me.
About the Key trilogy - I remember I liked it but really can't remember what it was about ..

The Key Trilogy is about three women who are on a quest to locate three keys - they are the descendents or reincarnations (can't remember which) of three Fey princesses depicted in a painting. That's all I remember from the first book other than my favorite character was the dog, lol!

I have read her following series:
Chesapeake Bay
In the Garden
Dream Trilogy
Born In
Which of her series would be most like those above?

@Lauren, the Angels Fall book is so much better than the movie. But I'm kind of biased since I've never really hated anything by NR.

I have read her following series:
Chesapeake Bay
In the Garden
Dream Trilogy
Born In
Whic..."
I suggest her The Gallaghers Of Ardmore trilogy(my absolute favorite of all her trilogies) - straight contemporary or Three Sister's Island trilogy - slight paranormal.
Or if you like just straight up paranormal ala vampires there's The Circle Trilogy or Sign of Seven trilogy.

Nora Roberts Series:
MAcGregors = 11
Night Tales = 6
The Stanislaskis = 6
The Calhoun Women = 5
The Bride Quartet = 4
Donovans = 4
Cordina’s Royal Family = 4
The O’Hurleys = 4
MacKade = 4
Irish Hearts = 3
Born = 3
Circle Trilogy = 3
Dream = 3
Gallaghers of Ardmore = 3
Garden = 3
Key = 3
Seven Sign = 3
Sister Island = 3
Star = 3
Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy = 3
so far these are the re-reads that i'm planning to read...I just don't know wich month i will read them...i may just post as i go along....

====i like that series, its actually one of may favorite... The Seven Sign series really creeped me out.....

I second the Gallaghers of Ardmore series - it is the most similar to the ones you mentioned. Nevertheless, I actually preferred her PNR ones, especially Sign of Seven. It has an excellent Stephen King vibe going on.

Thanks Calila. You're right about the movies not being a good reflection of the book. So I'm going to include Angels Fall on my list :0)
The movies for Northern Lights and Carolina Moon were pretty good - the others were disappointing.

i know right....i may have to reserve a month for re-reading her books...i'm reading my old series from last year's list...that have been in my TBR for like a year...
And i agree with you on the Seven Series. It really made the hair on the back of my neck rose...just thinking about it makes me cringe in fear...

My favorites of her books turned movies were Northern Lights and High Noon.

Why? i think have like the complete list of her series...not sure of it though...
(view spoiler)

Also in my opinion the older trilogies and series are much better than her newer ones.

I have to say I agree with you on that front, though there are a couple of her newer series that are pretty decent. One of the first that comes to mind is her Bride Quartet, starting with Vision in White. I'm finding I have to pick and choose with her books, so I wind up getting a lot from my library first.

I've read a good bit of her writing as J.D. Robb, long before I ever got my Kindle or joined Goodreads. However, at some point for me, it just got to be too much to keep up on. I couldn't remember how some of the newer characters had come into the inner circle, and the plots started feeling like they were just repeating older ones, so I quit the series.
I've not had the opportunity to check out her Romantic Suspense novels, though I am hoping to if I need to substitute books. Although, I think Birthright might be a Romantic Suspense of hers, so I may be checking them out sooner than I think!

Love this. Great start to a new series by NR. It does stick to her typical template, 6 friends/strangers/family members (3 Male/3 Female) must band together to defeat a great evil. But it's not boring to me. The formula still works, because the characters make it. I cried from the very beginning with Sorcha. That broke my heart. I loved how Iona would babble all the time, and surprisingly her wide-eyed optimism didn't annoy me most of the time. Though the BIG ANGST with Boyle did irk me. And I do wish there was more of a connection to Boyle, I just didn't get enough insight into him. Can't wait for the rest of the series though!
