Buck (spectru) | 900 comments In my younger days I went on an Asimov binge. I migrated from his science fiction to his science writing. He was a great explainer.

A nice little mention of you too, Paul, in that article. Good PR. I read your The Plot to Save Socrates. Still have The Consciousness Plague on my list.

Thanks - enjoy whenever you get to it.

In the meantime, here's a postcard Asimov sent to me in 1979

and here's more context about the postcard http://paullevinson.blogspot.com/2008...

Aaron Meyer (loptsson) | 3 comments Just finished reading Foundation, and Foundation and Empire. The series so far is interesting but The Mule clenched it for me. I hope the third book is just as good as it!

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments I read Realm Of Measure: From The Yardstick To The Theory Of Relativity & found a lot more than I expected. I think I read one about money too, but can't seem to find it.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Thanks to Sabri's post, I just read that essay, "The Relativity of Wrong," and, well, wow. V. concise, and spot-on. Thank you!

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments 35 years ago, Isaac Asimov was asked by the Star to predict the world of 2019. Here is what he wrote:

It's unfortunate that we're not being as responsible with our civilization as he had hoped. I sure hope some of his predictions do come true soon.

He was correct in his predictions, but we were wrong in not living up to it :)

He was spot on re importance of computers but there is actually one of the questions, which interests economists - we had to see much grater increase in productivity than we do.

Happy 100th birthday today to Mr. Asimov!
Also, in the US, it is National Science Fiction Day.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments I'm reading Talking to Robots: Tales from Our Human-Robot Futures. Of course it starts out with the 3 laws of robotics & pays homage to Asimov. It's really a nonfiction book, mostly. Sort of looks into the future, but more in a fun way while making points about today.
