Barry (bobsywoo) | 13 comments The book was set in 'trapper country', probably Canada, maybe Alaska. The region was very cold and snowy. Someone dies and it's either a murder or a wolf attack. I think someone tries to track a wolf. Someone is accused, goes on the run, ends up in a remote military outpost at some point. Pretty sure the cover image was of a wolf in a snow landscape.

Any idea what year it was published? If not, when did you read it?

Was it a standalone, or part of a series?

Possibly - Winter Study, Nevada Barr's series all set in National Parks featuring Park Ranger Anna Pigeon. Involves the wolves of Isle Royale in Lake Superior. The whole book takes place on Isle Royale and I don't recall any remote military outpost, although the outpost they are on is quite remote, and officials from Homeland Security are involved in the wolf study.

Barry (bobsywoo) | 13 comments Hi Lobstergirl

Thanks for your help. It wasn't Lobstergirl. I think the book was published after 2000 and I would have read it in the last five years. It was a standalone book. In terms of setting it was set a few hundred years ago, troops had gunpowder but there was no other tech such as electricity, maybe 1800's.

Rachel | 1527 comments This sounds like The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney. It's about a trapper who is murdered and a teenage boy who is suspected of killing him and goes on the run.The Tenderness of Wolves

Barry (bobsywoo) | 13 comments That's the one Rachel - thank you for your help, it's appreciated.
