Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 86 comments Looking at the lists I am surprised that drama is on the hard challenge but not on the insane challenge. Isn't the insane challenge supposed to have the same as the hard challenge and then be expanded?

message 3: by Michael, Mod Prometheus (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) | 1255 comments Mod
Drama was renamed to Contemporary, but I've fixed it

message 4: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 I am going to do the Easy challenge this year - one a month is going to be less stress on me :)

message 5: by Viola (new)

Viola I just recently joined. This looks like lots of fun. I'm going to go with the Easy Challenge.

message 6: by Mish (new)

Mish | 92 comments I'm a slow reader. I couldn't finish the insane challenge this year so I'm going to go with the hard challenge in 2014.

message 7: by Juno (new)

Juno (junebrighton) will have a go at the Insane challenge again this time..but I won't drive myself crazy this year trying to choose the books in advance, because in the end I found myself changing my mind quite a lot..

message 8: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) I did the insane challenge this year but won't have time to do it in 2014. I'll just start with the easy challenge and work my way up ;) So looking forward to it.

message 9: by Pam (last edited Dec 12, 2013 07:32AM) (new)

Pam | 63 comments I will do the Easy Challenge again in 2014. It was great fun this year, and I am looking forward to reading a variety of genres. I already have almost all of my books chosen.

message 10: by Franky (last edited Dec 12, 2013 04:37PM) (new)

Franky The Hard Challenge is about perfect for me. I think are just too many other books I want to read.

I like the way all these are set up.

Yeah that's what I did - changed and shuffled books around as inspiration hit :)

Sally906 Mish wrote: "I'm a slow reader. I couldn't finish the insane challenge this year so I'm going to go with the hard challenge in 2014."

I finished but it was more of a chore - I am starting off with easy - and then may read on and add the extra genre to do hard if I have the time :)

message 13: by Janet (new)

Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 86 comments Like Sally906 I am going to start off with the easy challenge again this year and upgrade if I find I am completing it.

That's the way to go Sally.

Whilst I like the idea of reading all the different genres, I only got through 20/36 books this year. The hard challenge would suit me best

message 15: by M.L. (new)

M.L. | 309 comments I think I'll do the Easy challenge this year (fell off the Insane wagon last year).

message 16: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Easy for me again:)

message 17: by Viola (new)

Viola Question, as I am new to this group. Where in this group do you go to post about particular genre ideas? Like, if I've never read a graphic novel before and I want ideas, where do I post that? Thanks!

You can ask the group or check the Genre/Sub Genre threads https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

message 19: by Kim (new)

Kim I don't think I'll be able to do it next year. I'm running a challenge with another group and won't have time for that many books.

message 20: by Minna (new)

Minna (vesiru) | 40 comments I'm still struggling with the Hard Challenge, I still have six more books to go. As I mentioned in the Hard Challenge thread I'd like to do the Insane challenge. I might start with the Hard and go up to Insane if I find the time. I might have for it next year if I don't begin in March this time.

message 21: by LuAnn (new)

LuAnn (luannbraley) | 5 comments Signing up for the Easy Challenge.

message 22: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (wearestarrdust) | 5 comments Failed the easy challenge this year but I only joined with a few months to go. This year I'm going to do hard or insane...why not.

message 23: by Jo Ann (new)

Jo Ann | 11 comments Going to try the Insane challenge. I'm a slow reader but I love exploring different genres. :)

message 24: by Jo Ann (new)

Jo Ann | 11 comments Just to make sure I understand correctly,

Translated fiction, is a book written in another language but has been translated into my language?

I'm sorry that this sounds like a very obvious question. :)

message 25: by Barbara (new)

Barbara I'm going for the "Insane" challenge in 2014. It will probably take me two years but there are genres listed that will stretch my reading and that's my main goal.

message 26: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Count me in for Insane! I fell a little short this year but life should be less crazy this time around.

message 27: by Kathlyn (new)

Kathlyn | 4 comments I wouldn't mind reading the more serious genres but would seriously hate the chick lit, kids, thriller, mystery, young adult, erotica, romance etc - so giving it a miss. Prefer the general reading challenge where I can choose my own books :) There are too many really good books out there and not enough time....

Any book that has been translated into your preferred language will count.

Jo Ann | 11 comments I thought so, thank you. :)

message 30: by Leanne (new)

Leanne (littlebunnylibrary) Happy New Year everyone! Looking forward to staying this challenge, after saying I was going to dive into the insane challenge I've decided to stay off with the easy one then see how I go :-) happy reading!

message 31: by Joyce (last edited Feb 04, 2014 09:20AM) (new)

Joyce (jjjlewis) | 4 comments Signed up for easy challenge. First classic to read will be A Moveable Feast. Then from historical fiction, The Vicor's Wife.

Looking forward to see what others have chosen.

Finished A Moveable Feast, Ernest Hemingway. A different kind of book but it provided a picture of his life during that period as well as insight into how he wrote.

Next The Vicor's Wife.

message 33: by Mave (new)

Mave | 3 comments I'm going for the Insane challenge in 2014.

message 34: by Franky (new)

Franky Starting with easy ,then I'll see what happens.

message 35: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ Going for hard, looking forward to fitting my reading into those categories.

message 36: by Joyce (new)

Joyce (jjjlewis) | 4 comments I am curious to know if the majority of readers will be reading on e-books or the traditional print if they have a choice for the particular book they are reading.

Would love to see comments.

I have a reader but find I really love the experience of holding a book in my hands.

My reader is fairly new Joyce so 90% of the books I'll be reading are physical books. I've got about 100 unread physical books on my shelf & my goal this is year is to bring it down to at least 60. This challenge will help :)

Mine will be a mixture of both I think:)

Beka I'm going to do the insane challenge

Mainly traditional books. As much as I try to convert myself to anything else, it doesn't work. I have a few on kindle, but mostly it will be traditional.

message 41: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 6 comments I'd like to read the physical books on my shelves, but I find I increasingly use my Kindle because it's easier to read while commuting.

message 42: by LyndiLea (new)

LyndiLea Hardman (lyndileahardman) | 31 comments Doing the hard challenge and starting with horror. After reading the first few pages of House Of Leaves I've decided that will be the book to kick off my challenge. Best of luck to everyone participating! Some of these genres I've never read before so suggestions are more than welcome!

message 43: by Tamaria (new)

Tamaria | 1 comments Hi everyone!
I have just known some minutes ago about this challenge and I'm going with the hard one. I don't even known that some of that genres exits so I'm not sure if I'd suceed anyway I'm sure I'll be back for suggestions.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going for Insane! Questions, though: can I double up for my other challenges? And can I count books I've already read this year? Do I have to read from the book of the month, and what's the difference between that and the genre of the month?

Sorry for all the questions: I couldn't find a help thread!

message 45: by Michael, Mod Prometheus (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) | 1255 comments Mod
You can double them up with other challenges
It can only be books read in 2014 (So if you've already read one, that is fine)
The book of the month is voted on, we do them as a group and try to explore different genres. That's is what this group is all about

message 46: by Heather (new)

Heather Fineisen I am trying the Hard Challenge, picking titles as I go along.

You wouldn't be able to sign up for January for the 2014 challenge. You'll have to sign up again.

Oh wow that book messed with my head! I was totally engaged with it though, great choice!

message 49: by Sarah-Jane (new)

Sarah-Jane (sairjane) Signed up for the Easy challenge, hoping to upgrade to the Hard one once I'm 12 books down lol! Starting with Romance by reading The Rosie Project

message 50: by MK (new)

MK (wisny) | 120 comments I think I would love to try this. I tend to read in just a few genres, so stretching to try out new ones intrigues me.

I've looked at it a few times, since joining your group about a week ago, and "horror" has stopped me from signing up each time. :-p. I'm a big chicken ;-).

I've noticed some Neil Gaimans are called "horror" tho, so I'm 27th.making I might be able to skate by using one of his titles. Or would that be cheating? :-p
